Spencer quickly slipped out of bed, almost holding his breath so that he wouldn't disturb his wife. He padded down the stairs of their home and unlocked the front door letting Kia and Patience into the house.
"Is she still asleep?" Kia whispered.
"Yeah, she was up late working on an article. She didn't come to bed until after midnight." Spencer explained as he made way for the girls to start decorating.
It was Olivia (and Jordan's) 30th birthday and Spencer (and Simone) were planning a surprise party for the twins. They'd get to celebrate them both and after the party, Spencer and Olivia were off to the Bahamas to have a private celebration on their own. Spencer was jolted from his thoughts at the sound of whimpering over the baby monitor, so he quietly made his way into his daughter's room to see that his son was already trying to soothe her.
"Good morning sissy. Did you sleep good?" SJ whispered as he held onto Aaliyah's hand.
Spencer smiled at the sight of his babies; their bond was beautiful to witness.
"Good morning." Spencer whispered out as he scooped Aaliyah out of her bed before lifting SJ into his other arm. "It's mommy's birthday today!" Spencer softly said as he carried both children into the kitchen. "We're going to make her breakfast in bed."
SJ was more excited to help cook than he was about Liv's birthday but that was to be expected from their five-year-old.
"I get to help?" SJ asked, bouncing in his father's arm.
Spencer laughed as he kissed SJ's head, confirming to his son that he did get to help cook.
"Kia and Patience are here." Spencer said, causing SJ to ask to be let down so he could go greet the visitors. Aaliyah rubbed at her eyes, still trying to wake up, not ready to greet anyone or be put down. "You okay mama?" Spencer whispered, kissing Aaliyah's cheek. Aaliyah nodded and wrapped her arms around him tighter.
Spencer handed Aaliyah to Patience and started pulling all of Liv's favorite foods out of the fridge. Every year for her birthday, Spencer tried to make her feel like the sole focus of the day. Some years were easier than others, especially the years before they had kids, but it was always his goal for her to know that she was loved and cared for.
Spencer and SJ made breakfast while Kia and Patience looked after Aaliyah and decorated the kitchen and living room areas to surprise Liv.
"I'm gonna go check and see if she's awake. I'll be right back." Spencer said as he placed SJ onto the couch next to Kia.
Upon entering the room that he and Olivia shared, Spencer took a moment to gaze at the beauty that was his wife. Her curls were tucked away safely by the scarf that she had on her head, her head leaning more onto his pillow than her own, and the straps of the tank that she had were just slightly off of her shoulders. He quietly made his way to his side of the bed, leaning down to get a better look at her sleeping face.
Spencer and Olivia had built an amazing life together and he'd be remised to think that anything that he'd accomplished would've been possible without Olivia's support. When Spencer was away, it was Liv that held down their household without complaint and he couldn't thank her enough for all that she did for their family.
Spencer was broken out of his thoughts by Olivia beginning to stir. He waited, holding back his laughter, as Olivia woke up with a frown on her face.
"You really waking up frowning on your birthday baby?" Spencer asked.
