Tobias POV

"Don't you dare step out of this house!" Marcus yelled.

"Mom?" I stepped out of the kitchen where Maria was holding me back. Evelyn turned to me a single tear ran down her cheek. She walked towards me and touched her hand to my face.

"I need to go somewhere...I'll be back tomorrow..." she smiled. She stood up with pride and didn't even say bye to Marcus.

I can't believe my own mother came to me for help yesterday night. I don't know if I should help her or not...or if I should even tell Marcus. I glance at my phone. It's 1:00 a.m.

I turn around to look at Tris. She seems out of hand.

"C'mere" I tell her. She makes her way over to me. That is when I notice that she's only wearing a long T-shirt. Her bare legs reveal themselves as she walks around the sofa "bad dream?" She nods.

"What are you doing here?" She asks draping the blanket over her legs. I avoid her eye contact. Either way she'll know something is wrong with me whether or not she looks into my eyes.

"I guess for the same reasons" I look at her. She cocks her head to the side.

"I feel like you're not being completely honest here" I smile.

"Well I'm not candor" she laughs making me smile. I 100% prefer her than alcohol.

"What's wrong?...I think it's about time you tell me all your worries" I shrug and look at the fireplace "it would really help me to keep my mind off of things" I smile at her. She looks at the fireplace.

"Evelyn came to me last night" I feel her eyes come on me.

"I thought you'd be happy to know she's alright..."

"Well, she's not all right...it turns out that she had a worse life then what she had with Marcus" she stays silent...

"How bad?" She says breaking the silence.

"He tried killing her" I look over at her. She looks down at her hands. I look down too. Her fingernails are longer then they used to be. I'm glad she's moving on.

"Was she abused by him?" I clench my fist.

"Yes..." she nods and looks back into the fireplace.

"I know it's not easy...by what my dad tells me..."

"You spoke to him?" I ask. She shakes her head.

"Not necessarily...only about what happened but it doesn't move past that subject, I can tell that he's changed...what happened changed the way he looks at me" I nod "but anyway...I get why you're mad she is your mother and even though she left you, you should still care for her just the way my dad did with me"

Either way whatever her mind was on came back once again. I'm a terrible boyfriend...if that's what I am...she came to talk to me so I could help her keep her distracted with a different topic but here I go bringing it up again.

"She needs a place to stay..." I look up.

"Are there any more rooms available...or beds?"

"I just don't know whether to let her in or not" I say... "I mean yeah she's my mom but...I'd rather stay as far away as I can from her...if I don't, that angry child is going to come back and hurt her" she nods.

"I understand...but just let her stay for a few days...I can make some room in my bedroom if it's necessary" I look up at her.

"No, you don't need to do that..." my voice trails off.
