I'm ready to step up

Tris Pov

I lie in bed propped up on my elbow searching for music on my laptop. I scroll down and click on 'Mirrors' by Justin Timberlake. I plug in my ear buds and lay my head back. My mind begins imagining.

A girl and a boy are facing one another. There is an imaginary mirror keeping them away from each other...

I jump as I hear a knock on my door. I put pause on my laptop and unplug my ear buds. I get to my feet and unlock the door. When I open it I roll my eyes and shut the door. But it doesn't close all the way. It stops on his foot.

"Caleb stop unless you want me to call mom" I say.

"I didn't come here to yell at you Beatrice. It's urgent. The factions are meeting up" I let go of the door and walk over to my bed. I sit while he closes the door.

"I heard that...Drew broke up with you" he says.

"Oh?"

"He got caught with this girl today in the morning. Apparently she was dating a Dauntless. She is a dauntless" my jaw falls open. I close my mouth as a smile makes it's way into my lips.

"What the hell Beatrice! This is bad"

"I'm sorry" I put my serious face on "of course you would want to defend him...I mean faction before blood right?" He looks away.

"I only came to warn you...please don't do anything stupid. You know that when these reunions happen. They always ask who's divergent"

"Caleb what makes you think I'll ever do that?"

He shakes his head "Don't play dumb Beatrice. I know you better then anyone else."

"So who's the chick?" I ask grabbing my laptop off the bed.

"Rumors say that it was that guys girlfriend...the one who brought you here last night" I look up. What? "Don't think I forgot about that" he says.

"How could you you're so clever" I say sarcastically. I look down at my laptop. So I see why he said he felt her distant. Tobias must agree with Drew. I mean that she is hotter then I am. Why did I ever have to meet the guy?

"I'll see you at the meeting" he says and steps out of my room.

I need to get there to speak to Tobias. I close my laptop and rise up. I make my way towards the closet. I pull out a blue spaghetti stripe shirt and black jeans. If I'm representing anything other then blue for a top at the ceremony. They'll know I'm Divergent for sure. I let my hair down and begin combing it.

This is it. Today I'm going to say who I am. Its all or nothing. I still might have a chance. Drew will never be able to enter the faction and I will be a new person. If chosen by a group. What makes you think Tobias will do anything to help you? I don't know but I've gotta try. I place mascara on my eyelashes making my eyes stand out more.

I need to be determined and ready for anything. It's certain that Caleb won't do anything. He will never let go of that faction before blood thing. I place blush over my cheeks, spray on some perfume and fix my hair. I'm ready to step up.
