Chapter 24

I wake up to the sound of my front door opening.
"It's no use. She's gone." I hear Stefan's voice.
"It's alright Stefan. We will get her back. We can't give up again. We can't let her go again." I hear Elena's voice say to Stefan.
"Elena's right Stefan. You can't just leave her like last time. You can't let her go. She was heartbroken when none of you tried contacting her or finding her. She expected you Damon to at least try one of the options." I hear Chase say. What is he doing? I get off my bed and I walk out the room and stand at the top of the stairs and I see Jeremy, Elena, Stefan, Damon and Chase all here. I walk down the stairs and say,
"Aww. Did everyone miss me?" I smirk and they all look at me relieved except Jeremy. He still holds hatred but I don't blame him.
"Where were you?"
"I went out. I went to the bar where I saw you all enter. I came back and had music blasting when I heard you all so I hid. I went to Columbus and went to friend. I stayed at theirs and came back earlier. I was asleep when I heard you all."
"You were in Columbus? I went there but couldn't find you." Damon says.
"I was hiding and a friend helped me out." I walk over to the chair by the fire place and sat down in it and stared into the fire. Mum used to tell me that if you look deep into the fire you could see your life. Well lets see if it works. I look deeply and I see me when I was 16. I was with Alex. He died in a car crash. It was our one year anniversary and we were on our way to date when a truck came out of nowhere and hit us. I survived but he didn't.y parents didn't accept me going out with Alex because they thought he was a bad influence on me. That was 2 years ago. Tomorrow was our anniversary. Only 4 people knew about Alex. That was Matt, Tyler, Jeremy and Jenna. Tyler introduced me and Alex. Matt was Alex and my best friend. I miss them. A tear rolls down my face and I quickly wipe it away. I remember getting out the car and going to the side of the road where I collapsed. I remember waking up in the hospital where the doctor's told me I was the only one to survive. I cried for a month straight. I locked myself in my room only allowing Matt, Tyler, Jeremy and Jenna in. I didn't want anyone else in. I was so naïve back then. I chuckle a little and when I zone back into reality I see everyone staring at me.
"What are you chuckling at?" Damon asks in a teasing tone.
"Just a memory. It was a happy one but then turned out horrible."
"Wanna talk back it?" Elena asks. No one here knows about Alex still. I shake my head.
"Nah. It's alright. I'm fine." They seem unconvinced but let it go. I look at Jeremy to see him looking at me sympathetically. He knew what I was thinking about and he knew that tomorrow was an important day.
"Hey Jer. Can I talk to you? In private?" He nods and we head to my room. I put a spell on the room so the others can't eavesdrop.
"What's up Mel?"
"You do realise what tomorrow is right?"
"Yeah. Do you want to go visit his grave tomorrow? I can get Matt and Tyler." He says smiling weakly.
"Yeah. Oh Jeremy? How come you wanted to kill me yesterday?"
"I have a vampire hating alter ego that over powers me without me knowing."
"I can put a spell on you so that doesn't happen again if you want?"
"Yeah I would like that." We smile at each other and I sit on my bed. This spell is quite powerful so I need to sit down. I grab hold of Jeremy's hands and start chanting. After a few minutes I feel a liquid running down my nose. I know it's blood and I know it's because I'm pushing myself.
"Melanie! Melanie! Stop! You're killing yourself! Stop!" I hear Jeremy shout. He tries to break out my grip but I hold on tighter. i carry on chanting throughout this.
"Damon! Stefan! Chase! Elena! Anyone! Help!" Jeremy shouts. I hear everyone whooshing in and I can feel their gaze on me. I carry on chanting and I soon feel weak but I carry on. I start swaying and dizziness starts to take over but I still chant. This is a once in a life time opportunity for Jeremy not to have a vampire hating alter ego and I want to take that away from him. The spell finishes and I open my eyes.
"The spell's done." I smile weakly.
"Are you ok Melanie?" Jeremy asks.
"Yeah it just took a bit of energy away from me. I should be fine." I smile again and stand up. My vision blurs and I blink until my vision is back to normal. I walk out the room and to the kitchen. I walk over to the sink and hold on to the sides. My vision blurs and the world spins. I see black spots in my vision and my legs give out. I fall to the floor but before my head hits the floor someone catches me.
"Keep your eyes open Mel! Come on you can do it! Keep then open." I hear Chase's voice. I smile a little at him and try to keep my eyes from closing but a heavy weight is closing them. I feel something being put to my mouth a realise its a blood bag. I try to drink it but my body shuts down completely.
