Chapter 4

Melanie's POV

I woke up to see myself in my bed. Who saved me? I didn't want to be saved! Why does everybody do that?! Don't they get it?! I don't want to be saved whatsoever! I feel rage go through me and I jump out my window and rush into the middle of the highway and lie on the floor. Maybe I can just die like this. I hear a car stop and a door slam shut. A woman comes towards me and helps me up. I check my pocket for a knife and I find one. I pull it out and stab the woman in the chest. Her blood going on my hand and my clothes. I drop her to the floor and jump into the backseat of the woman's car and fall asleep.

When I wake up I find myself in the seat of a car. Did I steal the woman's car?! I see my clothes bloody. I start to head home and once I reach home I go straight to the kitchen for some coffee only to see Damon there.

"Where is Elena? And what are you doing here?" He looks at me and relief washes over his face along with... Love? What the hell?

"Where were you? We have being trying to contact you all night! We got worried! What happened to your clothes? Why is there blood?"

"You didn't answer my questions Damon!" I snap at him.

"Elena and Stefan are at school. I'm here to make sure you don't go all suicidal. Now you answer my questions."

"I was out in the woods and passed out there. Its none of your business who's blood it is."

"Is it yours?"

"No." I reply and make my way to my room. I find a man lying on my bed. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. Klaus.

"Hello love."

"What do you want Klaus?"

"Ahh so you've heard of me. Good."

"Just leave me alone. Talk to me tomorrow."

"You won't be alive tomorrow."

"What are you on about Klaus?"

"You don't have to worry about it because at the sacrifice you will no longer live."

"What sacrifice?"

"Where you and your sister die so I can break the curse. The sacrifice is tonight. Be ready." I laugh and walk out to see Damon there.

"Don't listen to him Melanie."

"Don't talk to me Damon. I hate you."

"Yeah well you'll hate me more for this." I go to ask what he was on about but he bits his wrist and puts it to my mouth feeding me his blood. The next minute Damon is getting pulled off of me. I fall to the floor and cry. I'm going to come back a vampire! I rock back and forth crying my eyes out until I abruptly stop. I look to see Stefan and Elena looking at me with concern. Elena has blood dripping from the corner of her mouth with tears in her eyes threatening to spew. I stand up and hug Elena.

"Are you OK Lena?" She nods.

"Are you OK?"

"I'm fine Lena. As long as you're OK."

"But that's the thing you're not Mel. After tonight we are going to be vampires without the magic of Bonnie." I already knew Bonnie was a witch.

"As long as you're OK then we will get through this. We will find a way. A way to keep you human."

"What about you? You'll be a vampire."

"I'll be OK Lena. Don't worry."

"I do worry that's the thing. You hide your emotions and people insult you yet you don't do anything. You don't talk to me or Jeremy or Jenna so I worry because you seem fine but I know you're not."

"Relax Lena. It doesn't matter. You're safe and that's all that matters." She sighs and walks off.

"Stefan. Do me 2 favours? One can you compel me to stop doing drugs and 2 if I come back as a vampire to make sure my sister is OK?" He nods and compels me. I smile and walk downstairs. I see Damon and go up to him and slap him.

"You had no right to do that."

"I would rather you come back as a vampire than stay dead."

"Why is that? I hate you Damon and I'm pretty sure you hate me. I've also seen the way you look at Elena. You love her not me."

"I don't hate you Mel. I don't love your sister. I love you even if you tried to kill me." We chuckle a little at that.

"But Damon... I don't want to be a vampire and you took that choice away from me. I will admit I did love you but I was always taught that vampires were bad and should be killed. You also snapped my neck yet I came back."

"I was just angry and didn't face my feelings. I would rather you stay with me forever than be dead before either of us die." I go to reply but he leans in and kisses me. I react by kissing him back but after a few minutes I pull back.

"I can't Damon. I'm sorry." I say and walk out to see it's night and there is stood Klaus with Elena next to him with stefan in front.

"Hello Mel. Come on love. It's time." I sigh and walk over only to have Stefan grab my wrist and stop me.

"You can't Melanie."

"I have to Stef." I pull out of his grip and walk over to Klaus. He rushes to the place of the sacrifice to see Jenna passes out and a girl in pain. I rush to Jenna and check for a pulse but there isn't one.

"No no no! Jenna! Come on Jenna! Wake up!" I say shaking her. She then gasps sitting up.

"Mel? Oh my god! I'm becoming a vampire!"

"How do you know about vampires Jenna?"

"I've known for quite a while. I'm in transition I know it." I see a witch coming up to Jenna and I stand protectively in front of her. She forcefully grabs my wrist and cuts it with a stone an puts it to Jenna's mouth. Jenna drinks it and doesn't stop until I get pulled away from her by Klaus. Seperate circles of fire surrounds Elena, Jenna, the girl and me. Klaus rushes to the girl while the witch chants a spell. He rips her heart out and squeezes the blood into a bowl which has the moonstone in. He goes to move on to Jenna but Stefan tries to take her place but has a stake broken in half in his back then has his neck snapped. He goes to Jenna who attacks the witch then gets pinned down by klaus who stakes her in the heart. While Elena cries I try to hold back my tears and comfort her. Klaus grabs Elena and drains her dry. He drops her body to the floor and moves onto me. I just walk past him up to the podium and wait for him. He goes behind me and sinks in his teeth into my neck. I can feel my life being drained. I start seeing black dots in my vision before it all just went black.

3rd persons POV

After Mel is dead Klaus drops her body to the floor and starts transforming. The Bennett witch interferes and Damon takes Melanie's body back to his house as well as Elena's. Before the sacrifice the Bennett witch did a spell that put John Gilberts life into Elena so she stays human but with Melanie they weren't so lucky therefore she will be a vampire. Elena wakes up with a gasp and while everyone's attention is on her they don't see John drop to the floor dead. Elena looks around and finds Mel still dead. She rushes over but Damon stops her.

"Damon! Let me go!"

"Elena! You can't be here when she wakes up neither can Jeremy. Ric take Jeremy home." He nods and takes her. Elena looks curiously at Damon but Damon leans in and kisses her without realising that Mel has woken up. Back at the place where the sacrifice took place Elijah (Klaus's brother) plunges his hand into Klaus's chest gripping his heart and just as he is about to rip it out... Klaus promises to reunite Elijah with his family. Elijah runs off along with Klaus leaving Stefan and Bonnie having to tell everyone what has happened.
