MORRIS POV
I got to spend my morning with Y/N so I'd say this was a fantastic morning. She also agreed to go to the Pulitzer meeting with me.
Did my face hurt? Yes, however, everything is sorted out and now I don't care too much.
"Hey Oscar what are we doing today?" His face dropped.
"What's wrong?" I ask
"Uh well, Uncle Weas um" he stopped and stared at me. "He needs us to pick up something from the refuge"
So many thoughts came spiralling into my head.
"I- what?" I asked because I really couldn't wrap my head around it.
Oscar gave me a sympathetic smile. "Meet me there at two" and he walked away.
Fuck
I need to find Y/N. She knows about this. She can talk to me. She knows.
I took off down the street in hopes of finding her.
Y/N POV
Selling was hard today.
Race and I decided to sell at Meddas theatre and Jojo and Albert took central park.
A man came up to me. The same age as us, maybe a little older. Race and I gave each other skeptical looks.
"Hello, pretty lady" He spoke.
"Uhm hello, care for a paper?"
"Sure thing" he smiled and pressed a whole entire quarter into my hand.
An entire quarter compared to the normal penny was amazing.
"Now I'll be requiring something else" He laughed.
"Oh? And whats that?" I asked narrowing my eyes.
"A kiss." he spoke as he tried to lean in.
"Oh uhm I have a boy friend sorry." I looked at him and started to walk towards to a mother and her child in hopes of selling her a paper.
"HEY, I PAID YOU MORE THAN THEY COST! A KISS NOW! YOU OWE ME!" He grabbed me and just as his lips crashed into mine a fist came into the mans face.
"She doesn't owe you a goddamn thing now get out of here before I do a whole lot worse to you buddy."
We both looked up to see Morris. I sighed in relief. The man took off running while Morris shot me a look of pain, anger, and fright.
"Morris" I reached up to touch his face. He flinched.
"C-come here" He led me to an alley and he embraced me for a while. I gripped his hair and played with it as his head rested on my shoulder.
"I- I have to go to the refuge with Oscar later." He told me with dread and fear in his eyes.
Realization washed over me. "Oh Morris" I looked up to his and his eyes were wetting with tears.
"What if Greg is there?" he asked in a small voice.
"Then you'll stand up strong and stick with Oscar. He won't let anything happen to you will he?" I asked.
"But that's the thing" his head hung lower. "He always finds a way to break us apart." He whispers.
"What if I come with you?" Would Greg hit a girl?" I asked.
"You absolutely are not coming! Are you crazy?!" He worries with a single tear falling down his cheek.
"Fine okay I won't come but everything is going to be okay. And when you get back we get to hang out." I smiled at him.
"Right. You'se right. I'se thinks I just needed a hug from you" He tells me. I smile and he wraps me in his arms again. I don't dare break away. Eventually, when he's ready he smiles to me and kisses me one final time.
"I love you'se" He told me sincerely.
"I love you too Morris," I told him as I rested my forehead on his.
MORRIS POV
With each step, my dread increased.
With each step, my fear increased.
With each and every step, my heartbeat quickened.
I'll be okay.
As I approached the dreaded refuge I saw Oscar standing there, waiting for me.
"You'se ready?" He questioned.
"Not at all" I deadpanned.
"C'mon"
I followed after Oscar as he strolled in. We saw the man who ran the desk. I nodded to him as Oscar approached him.
"We'se here to pick something up for Mr. Weasel, straight from Gregory were told." He told him.
"Oh yes, I've been informed of your visit. You know the place well-" He stopped and smirked at us. "Just head up to Synder's old office." He grunted.
"Thank you," Oscar said but you could tell it was forced.
As we walked up the old, dusty stairs we heard shouts coming from the rooms where the children were kept.
In order to get to Synder's office, you had to pass all of the cells in which some kids still remained. I looked at the kid's faces, fear was written all over them.
Oscar knocks lowly on the door and when there is no one answers so he pushed the door open. Set on the old wood desk sat two large boxes. We slowly crept towards them and Oscar and I exchanged weary looks.
"Let's just grab them and get out of here," he spoke.
After Oscar, I approached the only remaining box and just as I thought I was in the clear, Gregory appeared.
"Ahh, the Delancey Boys" he smirked.
"Gregory" Oscar nodded. I did the same.
"Oh Morris" his smirk grew even wider when his eyes were laid upon me.
"Look at those fresh cuts Morris. How ever did this happen? Are you really all that weak?" He said coyly
My blood began to boil.
"Well? Answer me!" He yelled.
"Was nothing but a scuffle"
"And you end up with those bruises? Figures. Say let's get you some practice. The kid in the second cell is a juvenile punk" he seethed.
"Uhm actually we need to be on our way. Uncle Wiseal wants these as soon as possible." Oscar gestured to the boxes.
"Oh relax Oscar this will only take a minute" and with that, he grabbed my forearm and the box dropped and he dragged me to the cell.
"Go on Morris, I believe in you" he laughed.
"W-what"
"Punch him. That's what you're here to do." He told me.
"No"
"No? It's him or you." Gregory seethed.
Before I knew it I had punched him in the face. With that, I took off out of that hell hole. I heard cheers come around me from the remaining kids.
What the fuck did I just do
