RACE POV

The plan was stupid.

I doubted it would work.

But we had to try. All us newsies marched our way to the refuge in the dead of night. We tried the doors, but as you can imagine, they were locked. So we all ran around looking for unlocked windows until I surprisingly came across one.

"JACK" I whisper shouted and he climbed in, he had seen more of the refuge than anyone. We slipped into a narrow hallway and I followed close behind Jack.

"Where would they even keep them?" I asked.

"The cellar." He said as we made a sharp left turn and he opened the creaking door. As we peered down was a rickety staircase.

Once we made it to the bottom we began to tap lightly on it, to not wake any guards.

"Y/N? Morris? Y/N? Its Race." I said.

Y/N POV

It was the middle of the night and I was hearing tapping sounds come from the door.

They sounded like little birds tapping at a tree.

"Y/N? Morris? Y/N? Its Race." I heard.

HOLY FUCK

FINALLY

I shook Morris awake.

"What?" He said as I crawled over to the door.

"Race?" I asked.

"Y/N!" He whispered again.

"You okay?" He asked through the door.

"Fine and dandy" I rolled my eyes. I know he couldn't see through the door but I'm sure he could sense me rolling my eyes.

"Race?" Morris said as he joined me by my side.

"Yeah Morris? Don't worry, were gonna get you'se outta there. We'll be right back." He said.

I jumped to Morris and hugged him.

"We're leaving!" I said shaking his shoulders as we stayed on the ground.

A few minutes later the door opened with a hoard of newsboys standing there. I tried to stand to greet them but was then reminded of the pain I felt all over.

I immediately fell into Morris' arms as we both groaned.

"Y/N" Race said as he hugged me. He picked me up, and Elmer and Jack picked Morris up, despite all of his many protests.

ONCE THEY ARRIVE BACK AT THE LODGE

RACE POV

Y/N was fast asleep and I put her in her bunk.

I went downstairs to see Morris.

"You okay man?" I asked.

"Neva' betta'" He groaned as he laughed.

"She okay?"

"No way in hell she's okay after what she went through," Morris said.

"What happened?"

He inhaled sharply then shook his head.

"It's not that easy to explain. How did ya find us?" Morris asked.

"Oscar" Elmer chimed in.

"God is he okay?! Last time I saw him they were beating him an his goilfriend senseless."

"Yeah, he's okay, he was worried about ya" Jack said.

"I need to see him!" Morris said.

"Uh, you can barely stand," Crutchie said.

"Fine, but in the morning, I need one of you to get im'"

"Deal"
