Chapter 14

Y/N POV 

I took a deep breath before entering the lodge. I was greeted by the boy's roundness by then I saw Crutchie's head turn towards me. I started to head for him but before I could I heard Race. 

"Y/N COME HERE" my head snapped to him and he continued. 

"HOW WAS YOUR DAY?" he said or rather yelled. 

"Uh it was okay" I huffed then said, "how was your day Race?"

"NOT GREAT Y/N" Race yelled back. 

"Oh, and why is that Race?" I said begrudgingly. 

"Well, today I found out my best friend is dating MORRIS DELANCEY! ISN'T THAT RIGHT Y/N? YOU'RE DISGUSTING, YOU ARE AN ACTUAL PIG, HOW CAN YOU DATE HIM, GOD Y/N YOU DISGUSTING LITTLE-" 

"WOAH WOAH WOAH THAT IS ENOUGH RACE" Crutchie snapped. I turned to him and mouthed a "Thank you". 

I felt all of the boy's eyes on me. This made me quite uncomfortable. 

"Y/N is tha-, is that true Y/N?" asked Jack. 

"Uhm yeah, it is" I glanced around the room as I said this, it was filled with all of the newsies. 

"SEE I TOLD YOU, SHE IS DISGUSTING FOR IT" Race screamed. 

"HEY THAT IS ENOUGH FROM YOU" Al and Crutchie yelled back at him.

"Listen to me Race, you DO NOT HAVE A SAY IN MY LOVE LIFE. I REALLY LIKE HIM, HE'S KIND AND SWEET, AND HE LIKES ME AND I REALLY LIKE HIM." I looked back at him and he came closer to me. We were eye to eye and I could smell the alcohol on his breath. Then he yelled in my face  "SO WHAT Y/N I LOVE YOU, YOU CAN'T JUST LIKE HIM BECAUSE HE LIKES YOU" Race spewed. 

I had no idea what to say. Race? Likes me? Uh no. I looked around and everyone's eyes were on us. 

"Race, you- you're not thinking right now-" then he cut me off. With a kiss. A KISS. 

I pulled away from him immediately and slapped him. I took a step back and everyone's eyes were on me. I felt myself tearing up a little. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in. 

"Listen, everyone, yeah, I'm dating Morris. I know you all hate him, but um there's some stuff you don't know and he doesn't beat on us on purpose, he's forced to. I don't want this to affect my relationship with any of you but I really really like him so Uhm yeah now you know." 

I glanced at the clock on the wall, it read 7:45. I stepped out of the building and made my way to newsie square. I sat down on the bench and waited. I replayed the events in my head and then Morris walked up. He rushed over to me then wiped the tears off my cheeks and pulled me into a hug. I didn't even notice I was crying until he wiped off the tears. 

MORRIS POV

A LITTLE WHILE EARLIER 

I was excited about our date tonight and put my new tie on for the night. I'd been thinking about this all day.  

"Gee you're smiling like you won a Pulitzer award." Oscar said. 

"Well I myself have a date with Y/N tonight" I smiled at him. 

"Seriously? You're still seeing her?" Oscar asked. 

"Yeah man, I really like her, like a lot." I beamed. 

"Good for you man." Oscar said. It actually seemed like he meant it too. 

I glanced at the clock and realized it was time for me to get going. I left with a practical skip in my step. My apartment is about 2 blocks away from newsie square so I left at around 7:55. I saw some people on the street but then I saw Y/N sitting on a bench. I started to jog towards her, but as I got closer I saw she was crying. Crying. What had happened? 

I ran towards her then engulfed her in a hug and started kissing away her tears. She cried on my shoulder. I whispered sweet little nothings to her and rubbed her back hoping to help in some way. She finally calmed down enough to whisper "I'm sorry." 

"What? Why? What's wrong?" I asked desperately. 

"Race kissed me in front of all of my friends." she choked out. "I promise you I didn't kiss back, in fact, I slapped him then left," she said with hatred in her voice. "I think he was drunk, he embarrassed me in front of all my friends. Oh yeah, they all know now. He told them." she told me. 

"He kissed you?" I asked desperately trying not to take my anger out on her. 

"Come here," I told her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders. I wiped all remaining tears off of her face. We got up and started to head towards my apartment. 

"Wait where are we going?" she asked 

"My apartment" I told her.
