Walking into the Dauntless cafeteria doors, I feel stiff, but the pain medication took away most of the pain. The only sensation that emits from my body right now is hunger. I can't wait to have a muffin and my stomach growls. My head also begins to get dizzy.
As soon as I settle down at the table, I take a bite out of the muffin and moan.
"So Tobias," I say. "Where is everyone?"
"Probably at work right now. It is pretty late for a breakfast right now."
"No, I know a lot of people who eat breakfast at this time, I don't know what you're talking about." I snicker.
"Are-"
The doors burst open and Christina walks in with her head down, covering her eyes. She sits down without a word and buries her head in her arms and lets out a frustrated sigh.
"Oh my gosh, Christina. What's wrong?" I ask, scared and concerned.
"Will. He's just working overtime and he barely pays attention to me anymore. And as soon as he gets back to the apartment, he'll just go to sleep without a word's notice. I'm starting to wonder if I- I'm the problem," she says, choking on tears. "I'm scared he might be seeing someone else, or that he just doesn't love me anymore."
I place my hand on her back soothingly and softly say, "I'm sure that's not the case. He loves you. You know that. Just give him time."
Tobias looks down at me with sympathy in his eyes and his eyebrows knotted in the middle.
"Do you think I should break up with him?"
"No, ju-" I start.
"If you feel it's right," Tobias says, "then you should." I look up at him with a scolding look. He just continues, "But the question is: do you still love him?"
"Of course I do," she murmurs though her sleeve. It's wet now and a darker shade of black than the rest of her jacket.
"Well if you truly love him, you should trust him and have faith in him. Love isn't just about being infatuated with someone; it's having respect and trust built with that person so you know they can be your anchor. That you can always rely on them when things are tough, trust them when you become distant, and still be tied to them when you fight. So if you have a problem with something he ever says or does-or doesn't say or doesn't do-just tell him."
She looks up for the first time, her mascara running slightly and her eyes red. "Really?" she asks.
Tobias nods. "I can't see why not."
"Can I ask you something?" she asks.
He nods, his eyebrows guarded and his face closed and guarded again.
"How do you know so much about this?" she asks.
This makes me wonder; Tobias never dated anyone before me so how could he know? Did Zeke or his mom tell him?
Tobias looks to me and for a second, his deep blue look deeply in mine. He almost smiles but it's just a twitch in the corner of his mouth.
"I just know," he says, still looking at me.
My heart feels heavy, like it's weighing down my body and melting downwards toward my stomach. I feel like I'm about to get chills.
Tobias leans close to me and whispers, "I want to kiss you so much right now." The stubble from his beard tickles my chin. "But I know I shouldn't."
Christina releases her hands from her head and says, "I'm going give him a week. If he's still ignoring me by then , I'll just tell him it needs to be over between us. I just don't know what to do anymore. I took off from work because I didn't want anyone to see me like this." She wipes her eyes with her already wet jacket. "Thank you both."
"You tell me what happens, okay? I'm always here for you," I say with a smile.
She nods and walks away and out of the cafeteria.
"I feel bad for her. Do you think things will work out for them?"
"I think they will," he says.
I take a deep breath and continue eating. What he said about love isn't too far from my mind while eating.
When I finally finish, Tobias and I walk back to the apartment, holding hands and strolling by the cave-like hallways. Luckily, the pain meds relieve most of the pain that would come with walking. I'm happy that we're walking slowly due to my soreness. I'm about to walk ahead and open the door when Tobias tugs me around and entwines my free hand with his.
His head slowly leans in and our foreheads touch. "So you said you wanted to kiss me?" I mumble teasingly.
He nods and his hands caress my face and his thumb strokes my chin. "Very much so," he says deeply.
"Well we're alone now," I whisper.
He smiles and nods again. Then, his lips meet mine, softly moving against them. His mouth is sweet and addictive. My arm goes around his neck pulling his closer to me and my other arm wraps around his lower back, closing the small gap between our bodies.
His lips slowly move off my mouth and travel to my neck. A small sigh escapes me when he sucks on part of my skin and my hand digs into his back.
I feel his smile against my neck and his lips travel back upwards and kiss me on the corner of my mouth. I want him to kiss me. God, I want that.
Luckily, almost everyone is at work currently. The employees in the control room are few of the lucky ones who have weekends off.
"Maybe we should go inside?" Tobias suggests.
I nod, but nerves bubble up inside me.
His hands grab for the key in his pocket and he takes them out and unlocks the door. As soon as the door is closed, I'm pushed against it. His lips meet mine intensely and our kiss is filled with passion. A rush of heat overwhelms and I boost myself upward so my legs are wrapped around his waist. His hands wrap around my back holding me to him even tighter than I am.
When his hand slowly starts lifting my shirt, I gently move his hands downward. My seventh fear flashes before my eyes and I mumble, "Sorry."
"Don't be," he says. "I was pushing it. I'm the one who should be sorry." I get off his waist and go to sit down on the couch. My hand laces with Tobias and when he sits down first, I sit beside him on the couch. My left leg is over his right and our feet touch. His arms are wrapped around my body.
I just look into his eyes. He's all I need, I think. I press my lips to his briefly and let my head rest on his chest. He's all I need.
Sorry this was shorter than I wanted but I wrote half of it with my coach staring at me. I'm injured and supposed to be watching the game.
