Tris POV

I apprehensively knock on his door. I look at the clock on the hallway wall. 10:46. This is insane. He's probably sleeping. We have to get up at 5:30 in the morning tomorrow for a 'Welcome to Dauntless' paintball game.

He answers the door, in a sweatpants and no shirt. I look down at his body. I don't mean to. I just can't help it. From his built torso, to his gorgeous abs, he is perfection. His upper body to lower body forms the shape of a V.

"Hey Tris. What're you doing here?"

I bite my lip. I don't really want to say it in the hallway; don't want to admit that I can't stand up for myself when I'm bullied.

"Come in. I'd rather my neighbors not see me shirtless. And something tells me that you'd rather not talk in the hallway." He knows me so well...

I follow him into his apartment. I but my bag down on the couch and sit right next to him, with my back to the arm of the couch and my feet set on his lap.

"So why're you here?" He asks again.

"It was Peter... He was being a jerk. Sorry. I just needed to get away."

"Don't apologize. It's okay. You can sleep here tonight."

I smile and say, "Thanks. I just can't stand him."

"Join the club." He jokingly responds. We both chuckle.

"Sooo. I haven't seen you since the ceremony." I say, deciding to change the topic."

"Yeah. That was embarrassing- not that I'm embarrassed to be your boyfriend. Embarrassed at the fact that everyone was staring at us."

"Well..." I say. "There's no one here now."

He smiles and leans over. His mouth hits mine. My hands are on his hips and I bring them up and tousle his hair. He smiles against my lips. I pull his face back to mine.

After how long, I don't know, we pull apart and start to chat again. "Do you have any idea of which job you'll choose?"

"Depends on which ones are available." I say.

"Well. There is a spot for two training instructors, one kitchen, two shop managers, one control room, three fence guards, and a leadership-in-training."

"Why are there two initiation instructors? Are you quitting?" I asked, in horror.

"No." He laughs. "Lauren is. So we need someone to take her place, and also, Max didn't like how competitive Eric made training. We have one dead person, and four factionless. So Max is dismissing Eric of his duties in that area and having him in control of criminals. He gets to decide if they become factionless or die. So we need another person to train the transfers with me."

"So you come up with all of the rules for initiation?"

"Not exactly. I still have to cut people and adhere to the schedule, but I don't have to make them beat each other to a pulp."

"Well, that's good." I state. He smiles.

I think for a moment. I know what Christina is going to pick. She's going to be in the clothing store. But what will I do? Could I be a dauntless leader in training? Could I do initiation with Tobias? What will I choose?

I know I want to be with Tobias. That's one thing. I want to be with him, no matter what. And I know I will miss the smell of the training room.

My decision is made. He raises his eyebrows in anticipation of me revealing my job. "I'm not telling you, mister. It's going to be a surprise." He groans and I laugh. "And there is nothing you can do to change that." I finish.

He pouts his lips.

I laugh and say, "We have to be up at 5:30. We better get to bed."

"Okay. You can lay down. I'm just going to get some water. You want some?"

"Sure." I climb into his bed, and wrap the covers over my body.

He returns with a glass of water. He hands me one, kisses me on the forehead and says, "Night." He turns away, and just before he can continue his walk to the couch, I grab his arm, preventing him from leaving.

"You don't have to sleep on the couch." I say as I pat the other half of the bed next to me.

"You sure?" He asks. He's so sweet; he's not trying to push me to do something I'm not ready for.

"Yeah." He crawls into the bed and I cuddle up against his chest.

"Night, Tris." He says to me. Just before I reach the part of no return, I whisper back. "Night, Tobias." I drift off and fall asleep without another word.
