A/N About half of the way through the story, I decided to take an Allegiant scene bc I was feeling kind of lazy

"What did you want to talk to me about?" he asks.

"Tris," she says. I shake my head as I throw my head into my hands.

"Okay. What about Tris?" he questions, still uncertain as to her motives.

"Listen this is going to sound brutally up-front and direct, but-"

I bang on the door and she stops mid-sentence. I don't like the idea of her forcing him to admit something.

"Chris let me out!" I yell.

"What the hell Tris!" she yells back, throwing open the door. Tobias stands there in confusion.

"I thought you said she wasn't here," Tobias says, confused.

Chris stands speechless, glaring at me.

"No answer?" he asks.

She walks over to me and murmurs in my ear, "Way to ruin it, Tris." I know her well enough to not take her seriously. I can hear the hint of laughter in her voice.

I shrug with a joking smile, "It's what I do."

"T- Four," I say, catching myself. "Why did you come?"

"I originally wanted to steal you away from Christina and take you somewhere.... But now I honestly have no clue what's happening."

"Have fun," she says, pushing me towards Tobias, laughing. "But not too much."

She winks at me and I roll my eyes and laugh, looking up at Tobias. He grins down at me, at least happy that I'm joyous right now.

"Alright," he states. "Let's go."

We walk down the halls with our hands and fingers entwined in a comfortable silence. Side by side, he leads me down a hall that I don't recognize.

"So what happened back there?" he asks.

"What?"

"At Christina's. Why were you hiding from me?"

"I wasn't hiding," I lie. He raises and eyebrow.

"Then what were you doing?" he asks, lightly. He nudges my shoulder and I see a hint of a smile playing at the corner of his lips.

"It's a secret," I say teasingly.

He turns to face me and we stop walking. "Where are we going?" I ask him

His hands hold me at the waist as I am gently pushed up against the wall of the hall. Just before his lips touch mine, he whispers, "It's a secret."

Our lips met in a tender kiss. It was slow, gentle, and passionate all at the same time.

We leave the Dauntless compound what seemed like seconds later, but I knew it had been minutes. Once I'm outside, the cool air wakes me up. I pull my sleeves down over my fingers to keep them warm. There are a few people milling around the entrance to Erudite headquarters, but none of them notices us walking down Michigan Avenue.

"So I realized," he says, "that we've seldom gone on actual dates."

I just now notice that he brought something with him. A backpack.

He walks backward, toward the mammoth metal structure at the other end of the lawn, and I follow him. "Before I met you, I only went on group dates, and they were usually a disaster. They always ended up with Zeke making out with whatever girl he intended to make out with, and me sitting in awkward silence with some girl that I had somehow offended in some way early on."
