The pain starts to subdue to a slight stiffness by the time someone comes knocking on the door. I open my eyes even though I wasn't sleeping and move away from Tobias on the couch. As soon as I stand, I miss the warmth of his chest against my back and immediately yearn for his touch.
I swing the door open and Uriah is on the other side, his body leaning against the side of the wall.
"Hey, Stiff," he says with a sly smile. "You wanna go and beat the hell out of Christina and Shauna outside? It's snowing."
"Um," I say, looking over my shoulder at Tobias, making up my mind. Looking at him sleeping on the couch is heart-melting. He looks so much younger when he sleeps and all his expression is lightened, making him look like he might be smiling.
"We're going out in an hour. Just come out if you want to. Okay?"
"Okay, thanks Uriah!"
He walks away and I close the door behind him.

"That's not fair!" Shauna screeches when Uriah dumps snow all over her.
I trudge through the snow, watching my friends frolicking like immature children in the snow. Christina immediately takes snow and splatters it all over Uriah's face.
"Oh, you are so on, Moth-Girl!"
I look over at Tobias and smile at him as we watch them mess around. We walk leisurely toward them and they still have yet to notice us. They're probably in their adrenaline-filled bubble. Tobias reaches down and gathers snow in his hands, skillfully holding it into a tight, packed sphere and hurtling it at Uriah. It hits him in the chest and he looks down at the white snow splattered. The contrasting white on the black outfit forms scattered patters across the material.
Uriah looks up and screams, "It's on, bitches!"
He starts sprinting toward us, gathering and packing snow in his hands at the same time. Then he launches it at me and I shriek in joy when it misses me. I pick up the snow and throw it, quickly trying to shape it into a ball but mid-way through the air, it dissipates into a fine powder. Uriah hits Tobias dead on in the chest while he was attempting to get Shauna.
Then, all four of them turn toward me. Christina throws snow at me and it hits me on my stomach. Tobias comes in quickly and his hands wrap around my hips and he slightly spins me. He hugs me sideways and his lips meet mine briefly.
Here is a place where I am accepted, where I belong. My uncertainty with choosing Dauntless seems absurd in hindsight. I was frightened to leave my home, to leave the place with the people I loved. But little did I know that this would be my new home. Here, I am home.
After all the hyper energy was released, my muscles started getting numb. My head is on Tobias's shoulder and my arm is wrapped around his waist. His strong arms hold me to him as we look out at the scenery.
His lips press against my icy blonde hair that is scattered with snow. "Beautiful," he murmurs.
My cheeks still fill with heat regardless of the frigid weather. I squeeze him to me tighter. I don't feel like rejecting the compliment any more. If Tobias thinks I'm good enough for him, then I must be. But I will always have my doubts.
After a few moments of comfortable silence and taking in the perfect moment, the icy weather starts to penetrate into me. I slightly shiver against his body.
He looks down at me and I take my head off his shoulder and adjust my position on the bench.
"Cold?" he asks, staring down at me.
I nod, my eyes looking down, almost ashamed.
"Let's go in," he says, starting to stand up. "I hear they have a fire in the pit if you're up for it."
I nod and stand up beside him. He wraps his arm around me so I'm tucked under his shoulder. Just his little touch keeps me warmer.
As we approach the roaring fire, I realize that next to no one will be here due to the fact that almost everyone has work today. I'm so happy that I work in the Control Room. Both because I get weekends off and I get to be around Tobias.
We snuggle up against one another around the fire, which is set in the quiet corner of the pit. My head is pressed against his chest through the material of his shirt, keeping my cheek warm. He took off the jacket just as we came back underground into Dauntless.
I can hear both the cracking or the firewood and his heartbeat. His heartbeat is constant, safe. It reminds me that no matter what happens, he will be there for me. His scent is thick, it smells masculine but not like the cologne the Erudite wear. He smells like the salve he uses for his sore muscles and a little soap. Also the scent of sweat is evident, but it smells almost sweet- not like body odor.
He smells good. He smells safe. He smells like home.
"Tris," Tobias murmurs.
"Hmm?"
I look up at him and our lips. They move slowly against one another in synchronization. His lips are warm against mine as his arms pull me to him even closer than we were before. My hands find his back and grasp the material. Softly, his lips leave mine and begin a trail. They slowly move against my neck and a slight sigh escapes my mouth. I push away from him when I hear footsteps.
He furrows his eyebrows and has a questioning looking on his face.
I jerk my head in the direction of the loud footsteps. Looking behind me, I see Peter.
