ERYK'S POV:

"May I hear an explanation?" He asked politely.

"When the lights go out I dream about the discovery, unmasking the concealment...but then everything fades into a shadow in the background, leaving no one around but me and the doctor."

I looked up for his reaction but he had none yet, he just motioned for me to continue. There was a ringing in my ears despite the complete silence in the room. The only noise in the background was the wind rustling the trees outside and the slow dripping of water from his miniature waterfall.

"And in these crazy dreams I never hear him say: she'll be alright."

Taking a deep breath, trying to counter the cold shiver I was feeling, I bit my bottom lip and tried to get that horribly dark image out of my head.

"Dreams often reveal..." He stopped immediately when I began shaking my head. "Would you like to continue or move on to another topic?" He asked.

"Move on." I said steadily.

"Alright," He seemed somewhat disappointed. "alright, we'll get to that when you're ready."

Will I ever be ready to face that memory?

CODY'S POV:

"It's been a while since I saw Eryk do something for himself, other than small things like working out and studying or spending time with that girl he's dating...but this is something so permanent."

"Military school doesn't have to be permanent. He could change his mind after the first semester or even after the first week but the important thing is that he is taking the initiative and trying to improve himself."

"I know, I know and I'm happy for him. I'm just nervous."

"What are you nervous of?"

I started picking down at my thumb, "Every memory I have has Eryk there. In some way or another he's always there. Breakfast, dinner, walking to and from school, at night...School is starting and I'll have no one to walk with."

"This may not be something you want to hear, but sometimes things that force us outside our comfort zone are the things we need the most. This may be the thing that allows you to begin forming more independence, which will benefit you in more ways than you know."

Shrugging, "Yeah I guess you're right. But I'll also have to spend more alone time with Charlie."

"Oh? What is wrong with that?" He noticed my apprehension.

"Probably get into more trouble." I said snidely. "There's not another person to keep him busy."

He chuckled at first, "Charlie is not an unreasonable man, if you act accordingly then you probably will not be in trouble with him as often as you think."

I know it seemed silly, but it was honestly how I felt.

"How would you feel about spending more time with Charlie? Do you two get along?"

"Well we watch games and he's been helping me with baseball a lot lately."

"And how do you feel while doing those?"

"It's fun, I feel good. Charlie is really funny and we have a good time...I just think it'll be awkward without Eryk there. I've never had any real alone time with Charlie."

"You can raise this possibility with Charlie, but I would be happy to have you both in here to discuss some of the awkwardness you feel."

"Really?"
