*Hey guys! Thanks so much for your patience, I know I haven't been writing much but I've been  moving and busy with applications and finals week. I know this chapter is short but it sets the tone for what's about to come.*

I've been doing a lot better in history, especially since my last encounter with Charlie. Some days I stay after class and get some extra help from the teacher and I think it's been really helpful. Eryk's grades are perfect, as usual. But who cares? All he does is try to impress Charlie and sometimes it gets a little old. Like the other day, he woke up early to make breakfast for us both instead of waiting for Charlie. What a kiss-ass.

Either way, the summer school program will be ending this week and I'm so excited to have the summer part back. Today is Monday and I have my first final in history. Wish me luck.

He passed out the exam and smiled a nod at me before he moved on to the student behind me. I took a deep breath and twirled my pencil in my hand. Greg flexed his arms like he was about to beat the test up. Idiot.

The test was about geography, early America with the pilgrims and the Native Americans. Needless to say it was extremely boring to be lectured about, I think it's actually a pretty interesting topic with all the fighting.

"You may begin." The teacher said before he sat down at his desk.

ERYK'S POV:

"This exam is worth 20% of your final grade," he slapped the packet face-down on my desk. "therefore, you will need to take your time and consider each choice carefully."

"Good luck, Eryk." Natalie smiled.

Natalie was the girl who sat next to me and the one who I would sometimes tutor after school. I would make Cody wait and he wasn't too happy about it but she was worth it. She had long, light-brown hair with dark hazel eyes and pale skin. Her thick eyebrows complemented her round face, and her body... Nevermind.

"Thanks Nat, you too. You got this." I finally said back.

She blushed a little and turned away so I couldn't see her smile and that made me smile even more.

"You have 45 minutes, you may begin." The teacher snapped me back into reality.

I turned the packet over: the first section was on bones of the human body. We did an activity to make naming all 206 bones apparently easy but I called it bullshit. But I do remember going over it with Natalie...she did a dance to help her remember. God she was so cute, I glanced at her. Her soft hair and smooth skin made her irresistible since she sat directly next to me.

"5 minutes have passed." The teacher warned, I looked up and saw he was looking directly at me.

Focus Eryk.

CODY'S POV:

Name the colony the Pilgrims established. The hell do I know? I've been stuck on this question for ten minutes and I still have five more to go. Yes, I know you're supposed to skip the question you don't know and return to it but I have no idea what this is and it's bothering me.

I looked at the clock and saw that we have fifteen minutes left. There was no way I'd finish in time, who's to say I even get these answers right?

"Hm."

I looked at the teacher and he widened his eyebrows and motioned down to my desk. He was watching me the whole time. But he had faith in me, and I did too.

The answer is Plymouth. It has to be that because the other choices were states and province doesn't sound right. The answer is B. The rest of the questions weren't so bad and I actually am feeling good about the whole thing now. I guess I have the teacher and Eryk to thank for that.

"Have a good rest of the summer, Cody. I'll see you in a month." He said as I handed him my test.

"Thanks, you too."

I waited in the hallway by the bathroom for Eryk. There's still twenty minutes in this period and he's still finishing his exam. His birthday is tomorrow. He'll be sixteen, I'm not supposed to tell him but Charlie is taking us out to dinner and bowling. I've never been bowling but Charlie took the evening off for it so it should be fun. Depending on how well he does on his test.

"How'd you do Cody?" Greg came to me as he started to fix his backpack strap over his shoulder.

"Not too bad, how about you?"

"Pretty good but who knows, right?" He smiled and I smirked back. "Hey would you want to hang out sometime before school starts?"

"Yeah," I smiled because it was so unexpected. "yeah, that'd be awesome. I'll give you my home number."

"Okay cool."

I tore out a strip from my notebook and gave him my number. It was nice to finally have a friend who, hopefully, won't get me in trouble.

"I got to go, my dads waiting. See you Cody."

"Bye Greg."

I watched him walk down the hallway before Eryk's door burst open and a swarm of high school kids came rushing out.

"Hey, how was your test?" Eryk asked me as he put his notebook in his backpack.

"Eh not bad. How about you? You look like you got your ass kicked." I whispered.

"Yeah well anatomy will do that to you. Glad it's over."

"Um Eryk?" A girl came beside us. She was really, really pretty.

She was shorter than him but everyone seemed to be. She clutched her notebook with both hands over her stomach and dipped her chin down at Eryk as she smiled.

"Oh hey Nat, how'd you do?"

"Pretty good, and all thanks to you." She smiled warmly.

"No, seriously it's no big deal." They stared at each other intensely.

I moved forward to break the awkwardness from their staring and smiling.

"Oh, this is Cody. He's my little brother."

"Nice to meet you Cody." She said sweetly.

"You too." I smiled back and looked at Eryk.

"Well, my rides here." She pointed to the doors behind her. "I look forward to seeing you in a month Eryk."

He nodded and smiled. "Yeah."

She smiled one more time and started to walk away. I couldn't break Eryk's stare, damn was he in a gaze.

"Pussy." I whispered.

"Pussy? Watch this." He said confidently. "Hey Nat! Wait a second."

She turned around and looked somewhat relieved and very excited.

"Why wait a month? Can I have your number?" He spoke clearly.

"Yeah, yeah..." she looked as shocked as I was when Greg asked me to hang. "of course. One sec."

She pulled a pencil from her ear and scribbled her number down on a blue piece of paper.

They said their final goodbyes before Eryk turned to walk back to me, flashing her number in my face to show me he's not a pussy.

"Get out of here." I laughed and pushed his hand away.

"Come on, let's go home. I have a phone call to make." He gloated.
