CODY'S POV:
Eryk came into the room, he had bags under his eyes and he looked as if he was just electrocuted. His hands were shaking and he couldn't sit still for a second. Glancing at me, he unfolded the top cover of his bed and began to undress.
"You're going to be fine...and I'll let it go." He assured me.
"Let what go?" I could sense a bit of condescension in his voice.
"The fact that you hit me." He looked directly towards me, trying to emphasize the negative energy that circulated downstairs.
"You were the one that lied to me and went to see..." I began but he walked in front of me.
"Enough. Don't even go there, just because you don't understand why I did what I did does not mean you can toy with me."
"Is this a joke?" I laughed. "Are you seriously mad at me right now?"
"Oh go to hell Cody. Don't be so obtuse. You're too naive to get why you weren't ready."
"You really think that I wasn't ready and willing to go face..."
"I know you weren't." He said loud enough to quiet me down. "Let me clue you in on something Cody..."
Pausing to walk towards my desk, he carried the chair in front of my bed where I was sitting and assumed the seat before continuing,
"I spent months preparing for this because, and not that I'm trying to have a 'grief off', but I was the one who had to spend five years alone with him. At least you had me when he victimized you." He wiped the back of his neck and tried to get comfortable in his seat. "I knew I couldn't predict how I would react emotionally when he sat across that glass, not even five feet away from me but I was determined to get it done before the move...and let me tell you, it was horrific."
"I can imagine."
"Oh no you can't," he let out a small smile. "I've seen you regurgitate at the sight of him, I've seen you lock yourself in a closet for two days in complete darkness because you were scared that he would be waiting for you...I've seen you cut yourself before. You might not want to admit it Cody but emotionally I'm more mature and more experienced than you are...and I could barely handle it." He stopped for a moment to catch his breath so he wouldn't cry.
"Eryk..."
"You aren't ready to see him, and I definitely wasn't ready to have you there."
"What does that mean?"
"You're my best friend, brother-to-brother I love you Cody. For years I had to watch you suffer without being able to stop or even slow down your pain. So, if you were there and I had to watch you suffer again because of him...I don't think I would have been able to keep my composure and get the closure I needed. I had to do it alone, for my sake and I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, I didn't think of it like that." I realized now that he really did need this.
Sniffling hard, he wiped the underneath of his eyes and took a deep breath. "Yeah, well that's because you let your mind run away with you."
"Cody." Our moment was interrupted by a beckoning call.
"Shit," I mouthed to myself. "I still have to face Charlie."
