CODY'S POV:
I finished my test but the teacher told us no one was allowed to leave until everyone was finished. I'm bored out of my mind, there is absolutely nothing for me to do. I didn't bring a book because I was unaware we had to stay after we finished and I wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom or take out a phone if I had one. So I'm just twirling my pencil in between my fingers, occasionally tapping it on the side of my desk to get the typical "shush!" from someone in the class.
I looked around and noticed that there were still seven people taking the test, including Greg, and I was beginning to get impatient. Leaning back in my chair, I let out a loud sigh that turned into a yawn and I was met with another "Shush!" but this time from the teacher who narrowed her eyes at me.
"Okay dang." I whispered to myself and looked down at my pencil.
"Quiet Cody, your classmates are still taking the test."
"You know I'd be even more quieter in the hallway." I whispered to Greg, who shot a quick smile at me.
"Come here." She said as she reached into her top drawer and pulled out a yellow slip. "This is for tomorrow."
She scribbled some words down and handed it to me.
"Detention?" I asked as my eyes widened.
"Yes, you're to come here tomorrow after your last class for a thirty minute detention."
"All I did was sigh!"
"Go sit down before I make it an hour." She pursed her lips at me and gave me a sarcastic smile.
"Bullshit." I mouthed as soon as I turned around.
There were a few smiles exchanged in the classroom since I was now the center of attention. The first student in the class to get detention. Shit, how was I going to explain this to Charlie?
________________________________"Let me see it." He held out his hand and stopped on the curb. "I can't believe you got detention."
"Eryk it wasn't my fault! Literally all I did was sigh."
"Cody it says insolence. You must have made a snide comment." He gave me a hard look.
"Okay maybe a small one, but she..."
"No Cody, there's no excuses. You're going to have to deal with Charlie when we get home and explain it to him."
"I'm not telling him." I snatched the slip from him and shoved it deep into my backpack.
"You have to." He wiped the sweat from his forehead because it was so hot. "Trust me, if he finds out from someone else, because you didn't tell him, it will be even worse for you. Besides, you need his signature on it. See." He turned it around and pointed to a line down at the bottom.
"B-but it'll ruin the whole day. It will ruin your day." I justified.
"Stop acting like you're doing this for me," he smiled, he could always tell when I was lying. "you just don't want what's coming to you."
"And what's coming to me?" I asked sheepishly.
"The belt." He put his hand on my shoulder and I swear I swallowed all the saliva in my mouth.
