**Hi everyone, I know this is short but this is just the closing chapter for Eryk. More will be provided in the next few weeks. ~ K.A.**

CODY'S POV:

I haven't slept a wink all night. Most of my time was spent tossing and turning, or slightly dozing for a few minutes, a half-hour at most, because of my distress at the thought of Eryk moving on from here. And from me. Sometimes throughout the night, I watched him sleep; pondering at how he used to sleep at the old house in comparison to how he slept now. He used to be a light sleeper; never slumped over or in a heavy state, never snoring or slumbering...just asleep enough to get him through the next day. Now he sleeps as if there's nothing wrong. He sleeps like he's comfortable. Like he's safe.

How can I get to that point?

"Cody?" He asked from his bed, reaching over and silencing his alarm clock. "Are you up?"

I ran my hands across my face, trying to shield myself from the small ray of light piercing into the room. "Mhmm."

"Come on, get up." He planted his feet firmly on the ground, stretching his arms over his head and delivering a big yawn. "No more sleeping."

Hmph, sleep? Speak for yourself. I sighed before unraveling myself from the covers and standing to get dressed.

"Are you okay?" Eryk asked, putting on his socks and getting his uniform from the closet.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm okay."

When he pulled out his entire uniform, I couldn't help but scoff. He glanced at me and let out a low smirk. "What're you scoffing at?"

"That's your uniform? I've seen better on the servers at the diner."

"Shut it." He laughed. "This is issued to all new enrolled cadets, I don't exactly have a choice."

He was given a white polo shirt that he tucked into his black pants which had a red stripe down each side and was joined with a black riggers belt. I could tell from over here that his black shoes were neatly polished and tied tightly...all that was missing was the grey cap with the school's logo on it.

*Knock, knock* "Are you guys up and moving?" Charlie asked before cracking the door open.

"Yeah, we're up." I answered.

"Let me see." He walked directly to Eryk and inspected him from head to toe.

Eryk did a turn for him, seeming anxious to hear Charlie's opinion.

"Good, very good. Did you pack everything you need?"

"Yes sir."

"Are you sure?"

Eryk nodded.

"Black shirts? Shoe shine kit? Boot bands and your P.E. uniform?"

Eryk nodded with each one and pointed to his bag, "I got everything I need."

"Alright, alright then. Listen, why don't you take your bags downstairs and into the truck and let me talk to Cody for a minute."

Uh-oh.

Eryk made eye contact with me again but then did as Charlie suggested, and boy did he do it quickly.

"What did I do now?" I asked, putting on my own socks.

"Nothing," he smirked. "I just wanted to see how you were doing."

I rolled my eyes, "Spectacular." I snidely added as I turned my back to him to sit on the bed so I could tie my shoes.

"Cody." He came over to face me, kneeling down to help me tie my shoes since my hands were shaking. "I'm also upset that Eryk is leaving. Believe me, I don't want him to leave any more than you do."

"You seem fine to me."

"That's because I know he's really excited so I am excited for him." He went to help me tie the other but I resisted. "Cody I know you're worried and probably feeling alone, but soon enough you'll be trying out for baseball and you'll make a lot of other friends and I'll always be here for you."

I could feel tears forming in my eyes, I was going my best to conceal them but that only left me feeling suffocated.

"Did I ever tell you that," I stopped to sniff. "that when mom died, my first instinct was to call her and talk about it?" I actually laughed at how ironic it sounded.

He shook his head.

"In my head she was just out, gone for a while and would be back as soon as she could. Like she went to the store or something...it never really processed in my head until I saw those photos of her in the courtroom and heard how everyone talked about her in the past tense."

He nodded, this time moving closer and taking a seat next to me.

"I lost someone, the only other person I could actually trust and confide in. Someone that I could go to with any problem I had, someone who would vouch for me, someone who understood me...and now I am losing the other."

"Listen to me closely, you are not losing anyone." He turned me to the side so my attention would be parallel to his. "Eryk is being lost. He is just temporarily living somewhere else and he'll have free time to call or FaceTime you."

"But won't I be bothering him? He'll have a lot of important stuff to do."

He shrugged, "Sometimes he'll be more busy than others but I am confident he will always make time for you."

When I looked to the side, he realized how unsatisfied I still was. "This is what Eryk wants to do. I know it's hard for you, but we need to be supportive of him. Do you think you can do that?"

I nodded.

"Come here." He allowed me into his chest and gave me a tight hug. "We'll get through this. I'll help you."

"Thanks Charlie."

"Bye dad." Eryk extended his hand, and Charlie accepted it warmly, but the shake last only a second because he pulled him into a hug.

"Bye Eryk, remember what we talked about...and make sure to call me if you need anything."

Nodding, he backed away and gave Charlie one more nod of affirmation. Turning to me, he swiped his hands down his chest before kneeling down.

"Come here buddy." He lifted me off the ground in a warm hug, squeezing me as tightly as he could.

But I barely even noticed.

"Be good, stay out of trouble...but have fun." He let me down but kept me close to him. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Inhaling sharply, he let it out through his nostrils. "I'll be home in three weeks, and I expect a full report on school."

"You got it. Good luck in there. I want my own report when you have time."

"I'll call you tonight. I promise." He assured me.

Taking a step back, trying to relieve the unforgettableness of the entire situation, he picked up his bags and hurried inside before any of us could get emotional. Charlie turned to head back to the truck but I watched him being welcomed at the gates. He looked happy...and I'll make sure to be supportive for him.
