Chapter 18- Dollhouse

The first thing I notice is the surface I'm on. It's soft and comfortable but nowhere near as comfortable as the bed in the Underworld that I somehow knew was meant for me. Then I register the noise. It's the distinct sound of a power saw. I frown, trying to open my eyes as I wonder if I got stuck in some psycho magician's shitty trick. Then, the saw cuts out and I hear a familiar voice scoff. "You know, she's been out for two days, I really don't think loud noises are going to stir her from her slumber. You know who it will wake up? Me!" Ellie scolds.

"You didn't seem to mind the renovations when you were designing your current living quarters," Klaus's accented voice, that I'm startled to realize has become not only familiar but also comforting, retorts.

"Well, I can't sleep in there with all this noise. Who the fuck starts renovations at 8 am?"

"I'm afraid us villains can't afford to waste the day. All that time lost when we could be plotting."

"I thought villains operated at night," I voice, finally peeling my eyes open. I can't see either of them though. Their voices are coming from behind me.

"I said I was using it for plotting, didn't I?" He asks in frustration.

"Umm, Klaus."

"What is it now, Elenor?"

"I didn't say that." This seems to pause the hybrid and the next thing I know, the two blonds are in front of me. "Bella, you're awake!" She pulls me into a hug and I readily return it as I look at Klaus who seems to be avoiding looking at me.

"Yeah, I heard you say I was out for two days. Where am I?"

"Klaus is renovating a condemned building because he's an idiot. But what happened? Why did it take so long to wake up?" I command myself not to bite my lip as I try and determine if I can trust Klaus. He hasn't done anything to me and he's letting me stay in his house apparently, along with Ellie. However, he's also the greatest evil the modern world has ever witnessed and there's a chance that he might have me killed if he knows what I am. All it would take was a whispered word to Damon and my life would be over.

So I make eye contact with Ellie, conveying that I'll tell her the truth later before answering. "Apparently I overpowered myself. I don't remember much, just seeing Jeremy, Bonnie, and Damon, and then it all goes black, again. Must've been the betrayal," I state bitterly. My words are true, I just don't say everything and it succeeds in getting Klaus to believe it.

"Ah yes, the doppelgang, as Elenor so eloquently donned them, have become quite the thorn in my side."

"What do you mean?"

"My shit-for-brains twin stole his family." I feel my eyebrows life, surprised Stefan had the balls. Humanity or not, he's not exactly an evil genius. Or very smart.

"Well, they can't have gone far. Stefan isn't a genius. Now if it had been Kat..." I trail off realizing that the brunette isn't there. "Wait, where is Kat?" Klaus goes back to avoiding eye contact so Ellie answers.

"She took off after everything and Klaus won't pardon her."

"Are you fucking kidding me?! She risked her life to save you and you can't even find the basic human decency to not make her run for her life!"

"I'm not terribly sure if you've noticed, Love, but I'm not exactly human," he tells me with a tight smile, probably not liking my tone but I don't care and in the next moment, I'm on my feet.

"You know that's a myth right? If you tell yourself something enough, it'll never make it true. You can call yourself a monster until you're blue in the face but I can smell a lie and you reek of it every time those words leave your lips." We stare at each other for the moment. I didn't realize how close we were until now and I will my heart not to speed up. We're close enough to kiss and for some reason, I want to. I want to just lean in and kiss him, everything else be damned, and that's when I realize. I have a crush on Klaus fucking Mikaelson. Great.
