Katherine hated lying to Belladonna. Never in her life had anyone ever loved her for exactly who she was. Even Elijah had to take time to get over all her sins, but Bella didn't care. She saw all the horrors Katherine had committed and believed them to be justified simply because Katherine herself felt they were. So when Elijah had suggested using the cure as a means to gain Katherine's complete freedom, she had felt guilty. She didn't intend on losing Bella so as far as she was concerned she was free, but she wanted to satisfy Elijah's worries so she had agreed.

Still, as she trails after the doppelgang and Rebekah in search of the cure, she feels the guilt consume her once more. She knew that Hayley bitch had helped with the hybrid's revolution against Klaus before betraying them and Katherine didn't like people that lacked loyalty. But she was only a means to an end and all Katherine had to do was promise some fake information about her family once she had the cure in her possession.

She just had to continue to tell herself that it would all be okay. Bella would understand and Elena certainly didn't deserve the cure, none of them did, not after what they had done to Bella. She was doing the goddess a favor and earning her freedom in one fell swoop. With that thought in mind, she plows forward, knowing that there's no turning back now.

Back in Mystic Falls, Bella was passed out on the couch as Kol and Klaus study her. Finally, the younger brother speaks. "I'm leaving when we get out of here." Klaus looks sadly at the brother he had almost lost.

"You don't have to go. I had nothing to do with this. I give you my word."

"It does not matter. Bekah has become a traitor and I don't care to watch you all tear each other apart."

"What about Elenor?" Kol looks at his brother in surprise, wondering how he knew before his eyes find the sleeping brunette.

"Did Bella tell you about that?"

"She may have mentioned it."

"Yeah, well, it was just sex. Nothing more."

"Then what about Belladonna? She doesn't like when people leave. She'll never forgive you."

"She forgave you."

"I came back."

"If she ever needed me, I would be there for her. Tell her that when I'm gone."

"So you're too much of a coward to even tell her goodbye yourself," Klaus scoffs and Kol narrows his eyes.

"That's rich coming from the man who left her alone in bed to flee before she awoke. Besides, was it not you who told me of her persuasive powers. I do not wish her to make me stay."

"She would never do that." Kol stays silent, knowing that his brother is right, but not wanting admit it. The truth was, he feared for his life. He had died. It wasn't some situation they had managed to avoid, he had felt himself die and it was painful and downright horrible. He had seen the reaper, the same man who had taught Bella to travel in the darkness, only to be sucked back to his body and take a breath. Bella had saved his life, but what if she weren't there next time? What if she hadn't woken up quick enough or not been able to kill her sister?

No, he couldn't risk it. This town was a death trap and he wasn't going to sit here any longer and wait for death to come to him. If he had to hurt the first person to make him feel as if he belonged in a thousand years, then that was a price he was willing to pay. He'd go back to being lonely, left out in the cold, but he would be alive. A half-life was still life and it was one he would rather have than suffer the same pain he had earlier that night.
