Rowan walked around his office. He sighed, seeing the clear cube box was empty and water was all over
His treasure escaped, and it was the only way the merman could lead him to the blue merman that he wanted to catch
"Sir! There are no signs or the mermaids or mermen!" A man yelled as Rowan sighed and walked out to see the oceans were silent
No one. Not even animals made noise. Everything was silent. "Let's go back. We need to plan a way to catch them!" Rowan says as one of the men turns the boat around
They travel back, but as they do, Rowan was looking through his books. None of them helped, but hopefully the library will
They arrived home as some of the men were standing around or going to a bar. Rowan left to go to the library and began searching
He looked through the mythical creature row, but nothing. He searched every book, but none had information about the sea creatures
"Is it this, Captain?" The librarian asks as she hands him a book of mythical sea creatures. "Thank you, ma'am!" Rowan says and reads through it
To his surprise, it talked about everything. It showed the Kraken, Selkies, sirens, sea dragons, and many more
On the mermaid section, it showed there were different types or mermaids and mermen. It showed some were like sharks, some with colorful tails, some with veils, and some with magic
He found a page that shocked him the most. It was recently updated, and he was surprised that this book managed to update without the author being here
"Excuse me, but where did you get this book?" he asks as the librarian smiled, "The author herself passed it to me before she left."
Rowan just slowly nodded and returned to reading. It read "The Beacon of the Sea", and it showed a merman or mermaid in the brightest colored tail
All of them were beautiful! Even the male! He read how they were small merpeople, about 5 inches from head to the tail
"So the one I had was...THE BEACON?!" he whispered as he noticed it showed different colored tails
Every 100 years or more (based on how long they live) a new Beacon is chosen to complete prophesies and reunite kingdoms together
If something were to happen to the Beacon, a war may break out, and the sea will no longer be a peaceful place for humans, and they have a chance of accidentally calling a sea monster
The previous Beacons looked young or old, or some in the mid. According to the book, the youngest was a Beacon named Ryuku, born at the age of 21 from the sun
Now, the youngest was a Beacon named Dream, at the age of 18. Rowan gasped, realizing it was the same merman he had earlier
