"Just free yourself from chains and you will see a new version of yourself that is happy and smiling."
Fast Forward and it has already been 6 months after the incident. Everything is doing better than expected and I am really grateful for that. I smiled brightly as I remembered all the things I accomplished within this 6 months.
Ring! Ring! My alarm snooze for a few times. I groan loudly, rubbing my eyes. I reach for my phone.
"Hmmm. Let's see the latest news before waking up." I mumbled.
A few minutes later, my phone rings and it does make me feeling a bit startle. "Oh! That really make me startled! I wonder who called me this early in the morning." I look at my phone and say, "Oh? Ivy's calling me. I wonder why."
I pick up her call and answer it straight away, "Hello?"
"Hey! What are you up to? Did you just wake up?" she asks.
I gasp and replied jokingly "How did you figure it out? Are you spying on me?" She chuckled a bit. I could tell she would roll her eyes before replying to me. "Hahah! In your dreams! Oh, I almost forgot. The reason I call you today is..."
I furrow my eyebrow, replying to her, " is...? Well what is the reason?"
"Be patient! I have some good news to tell you. Let's meet at Strawberry café this evening. You have a day off, right? Oh and bring Jeremy too!" She replied.
"Oh. Okay! See you later!" I say and hang up the call. I mumble to myself, "hmmm. I wonder what the good news is."
A few hours later and it is already time to meet Ivy. I quickly tied my hair in a ponytail and mumble to myself, "Well, let's see. What should I wear for today?" I look through all the clothes in the wardrobe. I stop for a second and say, "Oh! How about white t shirt and denim skirt? Simple outfit for a hot summer day."
I do my make up for 10 minutes and quickly head downstairs. I grab the car keys, look at my parents and say, "Mom. Dad. I'm going to pick up Jeremy and met Ivy at the café. I'll be back soon. Bye!"
I drive my car straight to Jeremy's house and call him after I arrive in front of his house. "Hey, I just arrive. Are you ready?" "Yes, let's go."
The two of us chat as we are on our way to the café. I ask Jeremy, "What do you think the good news will be?" Jeremy looks at me, "Well, hmmm.... Maybe something about them two? Or maybe they invited us to join them on a holiday? Maybe..."
He interrupts me and pats my arm lightly and say, "Stop being too curious. You'll get to know it soon." I laugh, pouting, "Well, you know that I have high curiosity level, right?"
15 minutes later, we finally arrive at the café. I text Ivy and she replies that both Joshua and her is on their way to the café. We order ice latte while waiting for the two of them. I take a few pictures with Jeremy at the café until I feel someone tap my shoulder. I turn around and see Ivy. Her face beams happily and she smiles brightly before giving me a hug.
"Hi Alannah and Jeremy! How have you been? We haven't seen each other in a while, right?" she asks.
I nodded in agreement and reply, "Ivy! Joshua! We are doing well and how are you guys?" The four of us have a catch up session with each other and talk a lot about our life updates. I have been listening intently to what the two of them say.
Ivy tells us about her life and recovery for the past 6 months. I smile happily as I heard everything she says. Ivy and her parents had a serious deep talk once again after her discharge from the hospital. After the talk, they went to the counselling sessions and received consultation for better understanding with each other.
My heart felt at ease as things had finally work out for Ivy. It made me happy when I looked at her face expressions. Her parents finally realized what they did and tried their best to understand her. The three of them went for the consultation for the first 3 months. Ivy continued her consultation as she needs more time to recover from her experience and thoughts. I will always be by her side to support her.
Ivy got a job at the company near her home. Her home was only 1 hour away from mine. We visited each other whenever we had time. Being an adult is tiring yet exciting. Despite our busy life schedules, we would always make time for catching up with each other.
Ivy stops talking as she notices that I probably was zoning out. She shakes her hand in front of me, "Alannah? Earth to Alannah?" I blink my eyes twice and reply, "Hmm? What?" She rolls her eyes at me, saying, "This girl. What were you thinking? Focus, Alannah. I'm about to tell you the good news now!"
I look at Ivy and ask her eagerly, "Come on! Spill it! I'm curious to know what it is!" She laughs, then looks at Joshua. She holds his hand, making eye contact with me and Jeremy.
"So... Joshua and I decided to get married! We are going to hold an engagement ceremony next month! Alannah, you gotta be my bridesmaid!" She beams.
I smile widely and chuckle a little, "Oh my God, that is amazing! Of course, I'll be your bridesmaid!"
The four of us spend another hour at the café. An hour later, we head out of the café and walk towards our car. Joshua and Jeremy walk ahead of us, probably talking about the latest sport updates.
I walk next to Ivy, while looking at the scenery. I smiled brightly and say, "It's a nice weather today, right?" She looks at me, nodding her head enthusiastically, "Yes!" We walk in silence for a few minutes until Ivy calls for my name, "Alannah?"
I turn to my right and look at her, "Yes?" She smiles brightly, "I'm feeling so happy and content these days. Thank you, I... I have no words to describe how grateful and glad that I am. I'm glad that I decide to never give up and give myself another chance to achieve my goal."
I nod and listen intently, "Well, that's what best friends are for, right? We will always stick together! I am glad that you didn't give up and be a better person."
Ivy looks at me, nodding in agreement. She is about to say something, however the guys interrupted our conversation.
"Girls! What are you two talking about? Come here! We need to hurry and go there before it is close. We are starving! " Joshua pouts.
Ivy and I giggled a little. Both of us run towards our boyfriends, on our way to annoy them at the moment. Well, we probably will annoy the guys for the rest of our lives together.
As I run towards the guys, I look at Ivy for a few seconds and then at the guys. I thought to myself, "This is just the beginning. There are many more events to come in future. Now is the perfect time for us to learn how to spread our wings and unleash our potential."
