"I felt so much, that I started to feel nothing."
A few minutes later, my eyes were watery. It was due to tears coming out. I looked up, trying not to cry loudly in front of her. I heard that a coma patient can still hear their surroundings. I smiled weakly, continuing telling my story to her. I stopped for a second and said, "Ivy, your birthday is next week. I really hope that you will wake up soon." I wiped my tears, "Do you remember what you wish for last year? You told me that you wanted to celebrate your birthday at the skating rink. You said you wanted to go there with me and your future boyfriend." I paused for a second, looking at her and said, "Well, now you can go with me and also Joshua. Please... Please wake up, Ivy! I couldn't be strong enough to see you like this... Please..."
I could not control my feelings anymore. Tears rolled down my cheeks and I sobbed loudly by myself. Joshua and Jeremy went to cafeteria to buy some snacks 20 minutes ago. I cried for almost 10 minutes and suddenly I felt someone hugged me from the back. I tried to look back and saw Jeremy. He hugged me tightly and whispered softly, "Everything is going to be alright. Cry as long as you want, darling. I'm here. It's okay. It's okay to let out all your sorrows now. "
Fast Forward and it was Ivy's birthday. I looked at the calendar and said, "Today is Ivy's birthday and it is Saturday. Thank God that I don't have any class today." I opened the group chat of Joshua, Jeremy and I. I typed, "Good morning guys. What time are you guys coming to visit Ivy?"
I got off my bed and headed towards the bathroom. I mumbled, "Well, let's get ready and stopped by the shop before visiting Ivy."
15 minutes later, I was done getting ready and grabbed my car keys. I looked at my mom and said, "Mom, I'm going to visit Ivy today. See you later."
I fastened my seat belt, turning on the radio and said to myself, "Let's head to the flower shop. Start your day by listening to the radio, Alannah!" I arrived at the flower shop about half an hour later. I looked through the flowers at the flower shop. I smiled looking the flowers. A florist came towards me and greeted me warmly, "Hi. Welcome to Flowery Jitters. How can I help you? Is there any specific flowers you want to buy?" I gave her a warm smile and said, "Hi there. This shop is so pretty! I really like the atmosphere in here. Anyway, I want to buy flowers for my friend's birthday. She is currently in hospital. Her condition is the same and I wish she gets better soon." I looked up, trying not to shed a tear.
The florist looked at me in concern and asked, "Miss, are you okay? I sincerely hope that your friend will get well soon." She then gestured me to look at the flowers at the upper section. The florist explain each of the flower's meaning. I listened to each of the explanation intently. There was a flower that caught my eye. I immediately went towards it and turned around to ask the florist, "Excuse me, this flower is so pretty! May I know what is it called?"
She smiled at me, exclaiming, "What a good choice, miss! This flower is called Peonies. Generally, peonies symbolize good luck. Besides, this flower is one of the most suitable flowers to buy when visiting a patient at the hospital."
I smiled brightly and replied to her, "Yes, that's wonderful. I'll take this one. Oh and can I have a card as well?" The florist nodded and gestured me to the counter, "Alright miss. You can proceed to the counter for payment." I made my way to the counter and paid for the bouquet of flower.
I headed straight to the hospital as both Jeremy and Joshua already arrived there 10 minutes ago. 20 minutes later, I finally arrived at the hospital. I rushed towards the hospital room and opened the door. Jeremy and Joshua looked up and smiled. I smiled brightly and waved at them, "Hi guys, I am here. Sorry I am late. Hi Ivy." Jeremy shook his head and replied, "It is okay. We were just tidying up Ivy's room while waiting for you."
I looked around her room. It was decorated with a few balloons and flowers. I turned to the guys and said, "Did Auntie Flora and Uncle Ian come today?" Joshua nodded, "Yes, they are the ones who brought these flowers and air fresheners. They went home half an hour ago. Oh and they send regards to you, Alannah."
I nodded and smiled, "Oh okay. It's been a long time since I visit Ivy's parents. Maybe I shall visit them during holidays."
