"A friend is one of the nicest things you can have & one of the best things you can be."
- Winnie the pooh
The next day, I went to visit Ivy at the hospital. Ivy was grinning from ear to ear as she saw me coming inside her hospital room. She rushed me to sit next to her. I chuckled a little, looking at her reaction. I could tell that she was so excited and wanted to spill every single detail on her crush immediately. I laughed and patting her arm, signaling her to start her story. "You may start now. You look so excited like a kid waiting for their birthday presents." I joked. She rolled her eyes at me, clearing her throat before began her sentence.
"So... Yesterday, I was walking around the hospital because I was so bored. I began to explore the buildings in the hospital and looked around the scenery of the hospital. There were so many beautiful flowers outside! I really loved the spring season so much. You know that, right?" she smiled at me.
I nodded in agreement. Yes, Ivy really loved spring and she used to take a lot of photos of flowers whenever it is spring. Both of us loved this season so much. No wonder we are best friends since our interest were kind of similar. Then, Ivy continued her story and I listened to her intently.
"Anyway, I was about to reach for my phone in my pocket and it was not in my pocket. I was panicking yesterday and quickly searched for it around the hospital. However, I couldn't seem to find it. I was about to cry and gave up on finding it until I heard a voice behind me." She said.
She paused for a few second before continued. "And then I turned around and saw a guy who looked around our age. He approached me and asked, "Is this your phone?" I looked at his right hand and yes, he was holding my phone! I sighed in relied and immediately nodded."
I smiled hearing Ivy's story and found it funny at how clumsy she is. Ivy is known for her carelessness and clumsiness. She often lost her stuffs or misplaced it. Ivy giggled as she continued her story on her crush, "Guess what? It turned out he saw my phone near the park bench at the hospital. He saw me looking for my phone like a mad person. You know what's funny? He called me for a few times but I was busy with my own thoughts that I couldn't hear him." She sighed dreamily, "He is such a cute person and nice too. He was in a few rooms after mine. We had lunch together just now."
I squealed in joy and teased her, "Whoa. Looks like someone just had a cute date with her crush. So, what's his name?" Ivy replied, "His name is Joshua Michaels and he is really funny. He made a lot of jokes during lunch."
I smiled widely, wriggling my eyebrows and said, "Maybe he can be by your side at this hospital." She smacked my arm playfully and laughed for a few minutes. But she stopped smiling when she thought of her pain. The pain she had to endure. She then looked at me and asked, "Do you think they are okay with me having a boyfriend? Do you think I will be able to achieve it? I don't know how am I going to do it? All of it seemed like a dead end. They wouldn't care about my opinions."
I looked at her carefully. Her eyed filled with tears. Tears of sorrow and pain. The endless pain she had to encounter for a while. To be honest, I am not sure when will it end. Not sure if Ivy is strong enough to swallow her sadness and pretend to be happy in front of her parents. I am not sure what will happen to my best friend. But I pray that she will get better soon and her parents are willing to understand her perspective in life.
I calmed her down as crying will make her health worse. I pat her back and said, "Ivy, calm down. Relax. Take a deep breath. Let's not think about the pain for now." She took a deep breath and exhaled a few times. As she calmed down, I handed her a tissue to wipe her tears.
About 15 minutes later, I cleared my throat and gave her a piece of motivating advice, "For now, you can focus on getting better. It is good for your health as well. While you doing that, maybe you can get to know Joshua a little more. Perhaps he can be someone that you can lean on as well. I am here for you whenever you need me. I will help you to feel better and help you to be strong when facing this issue."
She nodded enthusiastically and replied, "Thank you, my best friend. You understand me so well. I really want to get well soon so that I can achieve my goals and lifetime dream. I promised myself to find my happiness once I graduated from university and now is the time for it." I nodded in agreement and said, "Don't worry. Always stand straight and be firm with your goals. I know you can do it. I know someday your parents will understand your perspective in life."
The day went by with Ivy telling how she met Joshua and I teased her a lot about it. It made my heart warm to see that Ivy smiled so happily. It been a long time that I saw Ivy's pretty smile. I sincerely wished and hoped that she found her happiness in Joshua.
