ALESSANDRO POV
It broke my heart to see Aria leave. She was begging me to stay. I couldn't do anything. I wanted to so badly. If anything happened to those police officers, I would have an entire Police District after my ass. The only reason the officers had the guts to enter my home was that they knew that the police district knew their location, and it would link back to the mafia. The police have never had evidence against us, no matter how hard they tried. It was practically laughable if you asked me. I certainly wasn't going to give them ammo now.
I know Aria will be safe with my Uncle, but that won't stop me from getting her into my care. For the past few days. I have been curled up in my office filing legal documentation and speaking to lawyers trying to get granted custody of Aria. My legal team thinks we will have to take this to court. Uncle Ricardo and I undoubtedly both don't want that for the sake of our mafias. No mafia chooses to deal with the legal processing, but we have to make sure she isn't in the state's custody. If we didn't file her legal custody to either of us, it could be a nuisance at any school she attends, as they could quickly get child services involved. If we ended up in court fighting for custody, we could incriminate ourselves or eradicate our mafia's superiority.
Mafia isn't the type for, say, going 'by the book'. We prompt our laws to be obeyed, and you don't even want to know what we do to those who break our rules.
I should also emphasise the family I presently live with. Enzo has been dating a woman who works for us. She seems faithful and an ideal match for Enzo, but it is not a matter of when the spark dies between them. It's actually when my idiotic brother fucks up somehow. The next brother, Andrea, has been trying his best to keep the house together; meanwhile, the twins are not on speaking terms. I have been leaving the two to their own.
I am confident it will blow over in a few days. My primary fixation momentarily is Aria and not some preposterous twin drama. A knock at my office door causes me to look away from what I am working on. I holler for them to come in. Andrea and Enzo are standing outside, peering through a small door gap, looking sheepish.
"Come in; you look like a couple of children who have chucked a football through the window.
"Do not!" They say simultaneously.
Upon entering, both take a deep breath, making me look at them with a curious expression. It was like they were entering the lion's den or something. I am not that threatening, am I? I only torture people for work. It is not like I do it for pleasure 'wink' wink'.
Enzo clears his throat. "Ahem, Andrea wants to talk to you about something" Did he throw his brother under the bus? Wait, am I the bus in this scenario? Shit, maybe I am. Are Mafia leaders scary because I don't think I am that scary?
Andrea smacks Enzo across the head. "We... think you have been hiding here for too long, and we are worried about you."
