SADIE
THE news on television just announced about the entrance examinations for upcoming college students in the state. There were lots of universities and academies in the lists, you could honestly choose whatever school you wanted to join in. I turned off the television after that. I wasn't feeling anything except of being a little disappointed. It took me a couple of seconds to let go the remote control of my hand and just stared on the black screen. Why did I feel nothing at all?
I used to be so damn happy, jumping on my bed when there would be a news about college stuffs.
I used to talk to my mom and dad about it for like non-stop, and even spread it to those old friends of mineTo remember it once in a while, I used to be that 'girl'.
I grabbed a cup of coffee on the fridge. Daniel was working even though it was Sunday while Aunt Molly was busy watering her plants. She kept the plants on that little space near the bathroom. It was something that always made Aunt Molly smile and creative. She treated her plants like her own kids. Even put so much effort on them...maybe that was the point of not having a human being from your own womb. That 'human being' that might change the way you see and live your life. That 'human being' to be called a 'child'.
There was no chance for me to enjoy the rest of the day than to clean my room. Yes, I did it. Well, there was one thing that kept bothering my mind and that was waiting for Jared's news. The last time he told me that it would take 24 hours but it had been almost two days and I didn't receive any news regarding to it. I tried to call Miss Morgan on the phone but I just ended up not doing it.
"Sadie"
"Yes aunt?""I made brownies for you earlier. You can have 'em on the table"
I smiled for a short amount of time. Even though I wanted to think about my aunt's brownies, the other thought about the cafe kept trespassing to my head.*
A gloomy day faced me at work. Most of the folks ordered a hot espresso. I couldn't resist the smell of it, maybe I needed one too. Maybe later.
I saw Miss Morgan signing some papers in her little office. Its door was always open, I noticed that. I planned to make a step but I stopped myself. The woman seemed so busy but her aura was so much better now than the previous week. I was about to entertain the upcoming customer when she suddenly called my name."Sadie dear"
"Yes Miss Morgan?"
She was holding two different envelopes and handed them all to me.
"What are these?", I asked.
"Go to this address". She also placed a piece of paper in my hand. There was an address written into it. I hadn't been to this address before.
"I hope you don't mind giving these envelopes to the supervisor. These are the final papers to be passed for this place."
I took off my apron and immediately grabbed my bag.
"I'll do it Miss Morgan", I said,
And she grinned.*
Philly had never amazed me like this but there was so much glamour as I placed my eyes in this tall building right in front of me. I wasn't pretty sure about the building's name but the taxi told me that the address on that little piece of paper was just right here. The guards asked for my purpose but when I spoke about Morgan Dover, they unhesitatingly let me in.
Different men and women in their uniforms were passing by the hall. I held the envelopes in my hand but I couldn't help but to notice my outfit. White shirt, tight jeans, sneakers, ponytail hairstyle and just a barefaced...not even a slight lipstick nor powder on my face. I was quite upset that Miss Morgan did not mention to me how extravagant this building is.
