Chapter 2: Unexpected Encounter

Akko's PoV
Akko: Ugh, I really just want class for today to end.

Lotte: Huh? I thought you were all riled up for today's class. You seemed quite joyous this morning.

Akko: Well yeah, I expected today to be a bit more...fun. But it's just the same ol' thing everyday. I mean I know we gotta learn all this stuff to be a 'proper' witch and all, but come on...loosen up a little, amiright?

Sucy: Yeah, sure. It'll be the end of the world if you're serious about studying anyways.

Akko: Glares at Sucy

Sucy: You know I'm just kidding...not.

Prof Finnelan: Taps the chalkboard Miss Kagari, would you be willing to share with the whole class on what you are discussing instead of focusing in class?

Akko's eyes widen in shock as she struggles a bit to find an excuse.

Akko: Oh, well, uhhhh...It's nothing, really...

Prof Finnelan: Sighs Next time, please pay attention and don't goof around. This goes for all of you as this will come out in the exams which is due not long from now. Now, where was I...?

Akko: Visibly sighs Sorry about that guys...

Lotte: Hey, it could've gotten a lot worse.

Sucy: Yeah, the three of us could be in trouble for how many times already.

Akko: I know, I know...I get it. Let's just continue on... Proceeds to focus during the class.

Diana's PoV
Hannah: Look, Akko's being scolded again hehehe~

Barbara: Yeah, this has been becoming a norm for her, don't you think Diana?

Diana: I wish there was something I could do for her so that she could focus even for a little...

Hannah: Do something for who?

Diana: Huh, what? Ohh (clears throat) Well, it would be quite wise for her to take this more seriously since exams are around the corner.

I said with a poker face

Hannah: Yeah, that's so true. As expected from you, Diana. But, that aside, what happened Diana?

Diana: What do you mean?

Hannah: I mean, it's not like you to be flustered about this or anything. Is there something wrong?

Diana: Nothing's wrong. I just didn't quite catch on what you were saying since I'm trying to focus. There's nothing to be worried about here.

Hannah: Oh, right. Sorry bout that, Diana.

Diana: Speaking of focus, I'll do whatever it takes for Akko to pass these upcoming exams and have the both of us graduate together.

After a few tiring minutes of Professor Finnelan's class, next comes recess. After a few words from the teacher, all the students quickly went out of the class to have their lunch break. Diana looked at Akko who was still packing her stuff, turned to Hannah and Barbara and said:

Diana: Hannah, Barbara, you guys can go on ahead. I have some things to attend to.

Hannah and Barbara looked at each other and simultaneously said "Alright" before going out of the class. After both of them had left, Diana called out to Akko, who was chatting with Lotte and Sucy.

Diana: Akko, do you have a minute? I'd like to discuss with you about something.

Akko: Hmm? With me? Oh y-yeah, sure thing, Diana. Sucy, Lotte, you can go ahead. I'll catch up with you guys.

When both of them left, it was just Akko and Diana alone together. It was an awkward silence before Akko broke the silence.

Akko: So, what did you want to d-discuss? (Cool it Akko, it's just Diana. Just act like you've always acted before)

Diana: Well, first of all, I just wanted to tell you that you should really discipline yourself so that you come to class earlier. I know that you know that you have, well...bad grades, so you should really do something about that.

Akko: Hey, it's not like I purposely came late to class or anything. There was a bunch of stuff happening in my life too. Besides, if I didn't want to learn about magic, I wouldn't have come here in the first place, would I?

Akko looked at Diana with a stern expression, which made Diana quite surprised and took a step back. Akko noticed the slight increase in her voice and sudden hostility.

Akko: I-i'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you. I was just feeling overwhelmed by what's happening, with all the exams and stuff.

Diana: N-no, you don't have to apologize. I should've considered how you felt about all this and I'm sorry for not realizing that.

The mood instantly changed into an awkward and tensed one. After a while, little by little, both of them started giggling.

Akko: Wow, I thought I would've never seen the day that you would apologize to me. But, don't worry...apology accepted.

They both gave each other warm smiles.

Akko: So, was that all you wanted to say?

Diana: Oh, right. There's actually one more thing I wanted to ask. It's regarding your studies. How are you faring with it? I'm just worried, you know? You really should focus a bit more in class. I know you and I both got compliments for our act before and it kinda made us a bit...well, famous, not that I care enough about it, but that doesn't mean you should slack off.

Akko: Yeah, I know. Sorry, Diana. I just don't seem to get the hang of all the runes and the history of it and stuff. I try to keep up but I keep either forgetting them or I mess them up somehow. (Sighs)

Diana pitied Akko for her state and decided to ask her something that would surprise even her...

Diana: Well, I have a proposition to make. Why don't I be your personal t-tutor? A-At least until you get better.

Akko looked at Diana, slightly blushed at the sudden statement. So did Diana as she turned her head away to avoid her red cheeks being seen by Akko.

Akko: Huh? I-i appreciate it but I wouldn't want to burden y-

Diana: This is a one time offer and I won't ask again! So, are you in?

Akko was surprised at the sudden seriousness from Diana, to which she smiled and held her hands.

Akko: Yeah, thank you for the offer. I'll be in your care, Diana!

Akko smiled brightly, which made Diana blushed quite a bit before saying:

Diana: W-well...I guess I'll see you in the library after classes for today end.

Upon hearing this, Akko let go of Diana's hands and pouted.

Akko: Ehhh? We're starting today? Can't we start tomorrow?

Diana: Akko...

Diana said that with a stern-looking face.

Akko: (Sighs) Alright, alright, after today's classes end it is then. I'll see you there, Diana!

After Akko leaves the class, Diana sighed slowly and watched at the cheerful Akko as she skips towards the cafeteria. She looked at the hands that Akko had held and a small smile slowly crept across her face.

Diana: Yeah, see you there...Akko.
