Chapter 3: Eyes Only On You

After recess and a few more classes, Akko told both Lotte and Sucy that she was going to the library to do a bit of research. Although quite skeptical at first, Sucy and Lotte said goodbye to Akko, to which she quickly headed to the entrance of the library, since she realized that she was late to meet Diana. Akko thought to herself "Oh no, oh no, I promised Diana that I'll meet her there...I hope she's not mad". After some time running and a few scolds from the staff, Akko arrived to where she saw Diana looking a lil'...anxious? Akko saw Diana tapping her feet while looking around. Akko then went towards her while calling out her name.

Diana's PoV:
Diana: Where is she? She should've been here about 30 minutes ago. Did something bad happen to her? I...I hope not.

Then I heard someone calling out my name. I turned around and saw Akko running towards me. Most part of me felt relieved to see that she was okay; the rest was feeling...kinda mad. I mean, she did promise to meet at the library 30 minutes ago. Wait, did she even promise that? I couldn't remember, but that's besides the point. What matters is that she's here...

Diana: Akko, where were you? (Crosses my arms). I told you to meet me here at 4.

Akko: Sorry, Diana. I just got caught up with one of Sucy's mischiefs.  I promise it won't happen again, heheh...

Diana puts three of her fingers on her right temple and sighed.

Diana: Well, alright. I'll let it slide for now. Just don't let it happen again. As they say, punctuality is the politeness of kings. Now, let's head inside.

Akko: Yes, sensei~

Diana blushed slightly at Akko's sudden reply.

Diana: D-don't call me that. Geez, let's just hurry and get inside.

Akko giggled at a blushing Diana, to which both of them then headed inside, where they see a few people reading and doing researches about particular topics. Both of them searched for a place near the back of the library to avoid any disturbances. After finding a suitable place, they both sat down right next to each other.

Diana: Now then, today we'll focus on Magic Linguistics and History of Magic, both of which where-

Akko: -I'm not that great at it. I know...

Akko visibly sighed, which made Diana giggle at the sight.

Diana: Right. Then for tomorrow, we will begin our broom flying lessons. You may have ride on it, but I want you to really master the basics of it. Alright?

Akko: Alrighty then.

Diana: Good, now let's begin. Starting with Magic Linguistics...

Akko's PoV:
Learning with Diana is...a great experience, to say the least. She really is a great teacher and I really do appreciate that she takes the time to tutor me. I tried to focus on what she's teaching, but all I can really focus on is her. I mean, can you really blame me when you have your crush literally right in front of you. Her beautiful light blue eyes, her platinum blonde hair with tea-green highlights. She's the definition of beauty.

Diana: Akko, are you understanding all of this?

Akko: H-huh? What?

Diana: Sighs Akko, have you been daydreaming this whole time?

Akko: No, I really did focus. But, could you err...explain it one more time. I didn't really understand some of it hehehe...

Diana: So you did daydream while I was going through the materials. My goodness, Akko...Very well, but be sure to pay attention carefully as Miss Finnelan said this'll come out in the exams. And only because you're so cute when you do that...

Akko: What was that?

Diana: N-nothing. Let's just continue with this.

Akko: Alright then.

The rest of the study session went on smoothly. Akko learnt a lot about the fundamentals of Magic Linguistics, which was possible with Diana showing her the ropes. After a few minutes of studying, they decided to rest for a while.

Akko: Wow, that was much easier than I expected it to be! Thanks so much, Diana! You're a really great teacher.

Diana: You would've understood it a lot sooner if you paid attention in class, Akko.

Akko laughed nervously while scratching the back of her head.

Akko: Yeah, I guess you're right. Thanks again, Diana for taking the time to do this. I really appreciate it.

Diana: Blushes slightly Y-You don't really need to keep saying that. I just did it out of my own volition. That's all.

Diana looked at Akko and noticed her face was like a wet weekend. She was quite trouble by this, so she gently put her hand on Akko's left shoulder.

Diana: Akko, what's wrong? You don't like me helping you?

Akko: No, it's not that. It's just...why?

Diana: Why? What do you mean by that...

Akko: Why are you helping me actually? Didn't you hate me, Diana?

Diana was quite surprised when she heard that coming from Akko. "Did she really think that all this time? Had I been that mean to her for her to believe that I hated her?" Diana thought to herself.

Diana: I-I don't hate you, Akko. I only hated myself...

Akko: Hmmm?

Diana: T-the point is that I never did hate you. I just didn't like how you were spontaneous and did what you wanted to do without ever thinking. But, I never hated you for...you being you.

It was Akko's turn to blush at Diana's response, even slightly more than Diana. Now, both of them were beet red. Akko was twiddling with her thumbs while Diana was playing anxiously with her hair.

Akko: S-so, like, do you see me as a...friend?

Diana's face falters for a moment before regaining her composure.

Diana: Y-yes, I guess we are...friends. I already considered you as one before.

Akko: Well, thanks, Diana. I hope I can be a good friend to you.

Diana: Y-yeah, me too, Akko.

The mood have seemed to deescalated. After a while of awkward silence, Akko held Diana's hands and smiled even brighter than before.

Akko: Alright, let's continue studying. I can't wait...

Diana looked at Akko and smiled softly.

Diana: Alright, let's get started on the next subject.

Akko: Sure thing.

Diana's PoV
Well, there's the smile I've been longing for. Maybe...tutoring her wasn't a bad thing after all~
