You sat beside the cart that Levi was laying on, keeping your hand by his side as his was laying gently on top of yours. The other Scouts, plus the people from Marley were sitting around the fire as Hange sliced up the potatoes into the pot. "Wanna stop glaring at each other and lend me a hand?"
"Hm. Sharing a meal with enemies of war. What changed your mind?" Magath asked as he sat beside the cart titan, a bottle of alcohol in his hand. "If you let Eren succeed, you'll get your ideal world, a paradise for island devils. We would've stopped Eren and Zeke from coming into contact had you guys not helped them." Magath looked at all of you as he spoke out into the silence. "I already explained. We don't wish for genocide. Otherwise, we wouldn't be hiding in the forest making stew."
Hange looked up at the soldier, putting the knife and potato down. "Finally found a sense of justice, huh?" Magath looked up at Hange and you shook your head.
"Justice? You wanna talk to us about justice?" Jean spoke to Magrath and you could feel his attitude change within a second. "You think we're devils for fighting off the Titans that you sent?!" Jean raised his voice as he pointed at Magath. "Listen, we fought our asses off because we didn't wanna get eaten alive!" You gripped Levi's hand as you watched Jean get closer to the General. "Does hat sound like devils to you?!" Jean shouted, his fists clenched as he stared down at Magath.
"Sounds like devils to me. The threat of Paradis came true and now the world's in danger. Am I wrong?" Magath took a swig of his drink as he avoided eye contact with Jean. "If not for the wall falling an Eren having to see his mother get eaten alive, he wouldn't have down this. You made him use the rumbling!" Jean shouted at the General as the General looked up at him.
"You wanna talk history, huh? You know that Marley was tyrannized and devasted by Eldia first, right? It's like I'm talking to children. The island's suffering is a joke compared to the 2,000 years of tragic history." The two kept eye contact as the tension rose.
"Jean, the general has trouble understanding us. We're weird devils who would give up our paradise to help the very world that wants to exterminate us. For a few months, we lived in the outside world. We can't go back to being ignorant island devils." Hange stirred the stew as they stared blankly in front of them. Your eyes traveled between Jean and the General.
"So can you kill him?" Annie spoke up and you were pretty sure that's the first thing she said since you've seen her. "There are other ways to go about this." Armin responded to Annie as she looked at the group. ""What then? Talk him out of it? You think you can change the mind of someone slaughtering humanity?" Annie stood still as she looked between the four of the scouts.
You knew their history with each other, it was hard to miss everything since you were in a higher position than them. "Let's say you can't convince him and he won't stop the rumbling. What then? You can't answer cause you cant think of him as an enemy?" Annie was met with silence as she looked at the ground. "I knew it. If the rest of us from Marley try to kill Eren, you guys will end up fighting us to protect him, guaranteed. Isn't that right, Mikasa?"
"You can't even imagine anything being more important to you than Eren." Annie lifted her head to glare at Mikasa. All within a split second, Mikasa had the ends of her blades out. You quickly jumped up, removing your hand from Levi's as you looked at the two girls. Annie's hand was raised, flashing the ring on her finger that she used to slice her finger.
You hand flew to your blades, but Hange shot you a look. "I understand the feeling. I wanna stop Eren for one reason, so my father in Marley doesn't die. That's why I need your help. If you can change Eren's mind, all the better. But if you try, we shouldn't be fighting." Annie removed the ring from her finger, keeping her hand up to Mikasa.
Mikasa put away her blades and turned towards the trees. "Fine." She bitterly said as she looked away from Annie. "Alright, the stew's ready!" Hange called out, breaking the silence that followed the stand off.
"Even with rested horses, it's five hours to the port. According to Azumabito, a flying boat to observe the rumbling is there. That's how we get near the Founding Titan." Hange looked at you and then to the General. "Go figure. The Azumabito went behind our backs." The General scoffed as he gripped onto his bottle.
You looked back at Levi laying down in the cart. You couldn't tell if he was sleeping or listening intently. He looked peaceful as he rested on the cart. The bowl of stew sat in your hands, left untouched. You sat away from the circle of people, unable to make out most of their conversation.
"You doing okay there?" You turned to Levi only to be met with silence. "I wonder how Eden is doing back there. I'm sure he's fine, I just miss him." You frowned at the thought of Eden being without you and Levi. "After all this, we'll have to settle down. Given your condition." You looked Levi up and down, saddened at the state of him.
"I'm just glad you'll get to rest for once. I'm just sorry it had to be because of injuries." You shook your head as you stirred the soup with your spoon. "I'll always be there to take care of you, whether you like it or not. You were there for me when I was sick." You set down your bowl and leaned your head against the cart as you stared at the group.
Something was obviously going on, since they all had distressed looks on their faces. "We could get a house, raise Eden in a world where he doesn't have to be afraid. Maybe we could add another person to the bunch." You giggled as you thought back to the first moments with Eden.
"I'm sure whatever it is, we'll be truly happy." You let out a sigh and looked to Levi. "I hope you're not listening to all this though." You patted his hand gently and returned to looking at the group. You could hear Jean shouting at Reiner. You perked up as you watched Jean lunge at Reiner, beating him senselessly on the ground.
You didn't have enough energy to shoot up and intervene, plus it seemed like Armin and Connie had it under control. There was some more shouting as Jean struggled against Connie and Armin's restraint. There was rustling beside you as Levi sat up, the sheet falling off of him.
Jean walked away from the confrontation and everyone seemed to have cooled down. "So damn noisy." Levi muttered as he looked at the group then at you. "And I did hear what you said, dumbass. Just worry about now." He brought his hand up to your face, slowly grazing your cheek with the remaining fingers on his right hand.
"And you won't be taking care of me. You're acting like I'm useless now." Levi scoffed as he laid back down in the cart. "I didn't mean it like that!" You chuckled as Levi just rolled his eye. "Sure. Just come up in this dingy thing so you can get some sleep." Levi closed his eye and you stood up from the ground, hoisting yourself up onto the single piece of wood held up by the two wheels.
You were careful as you laid down beside Levi, laying flat up to look at the sky. "I love you Y/N, even if we don't make it to that little fantasy of yours."
