A/N this chapter is a little bit jumpy in terms of time, but nothing too crazy. Also this chapter got unexpectedly long, but I'm rolling with it.
Onward!

Day OneIt was around noon when Amelia and Cristina came by to check on Jane. They went into the room quietly, trying to make sure that they didn't wake anyone who was asleep.
Amelia gently shook Maura. "Oh. I'm sorry Doctor Shepherd, I didn't mean to fall asleep." Maura yawned. "Nah, don't worry. You had a long night last night." She smiled.
"Her heart is beating nicely, a little slower than I would like it to be, but after a nearly twelve hour surgery I think it's doing extremely well." Cristina said, giving the chart back to the nurse in the room.
"Are you worried about sepsis forming around any of her incisions?" Maura asked as Amelia began to slowly unwrap the bandage.
Cristina sighed, "Doctor Rizzoli-Isles-" "Please call me Maura."
"Maura, to be honest, yes. Since we had to keep her open about five hours longer, I am worried about sepsis having entered her system. I have ordered some antibiotics and blood work done every four hours. In a day or two, if something still seems off, either Doctor Burr-Montgomery or I will take her back in and clean out any infection.
"At this point, I'm more worried about her heart deciding to reject the stent or a blood clot. I'll be by later." Cristina says, squeezing Maura's shoulder before leaving.
"I am gonna run some neuro tests here after her blood is taken and see what her brain functions are." Amelia sat in the chair next to Maura.
"Doctor Shepherd?" "Hmm?" "Do you think she'll wake up?" "I do. I made sure to do the best that I could. You'll probably be annoyed with how many head CT's that I'll be ordering, but..." She trailed off.
"Forgive me if I'm being rude, but are you referring to..?" "Yeah. I don't want to be the reason that your children didn't get to say goodbye." Amelia sighed, closing her eyes, "But from what I hear, Jane is one hell of a fighter and I have no doubt in my mind that she will recover."
"I hope so." "I know she will."
Day Three
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything." JD says knocking on the door.
"No, come on in Doctor Burr." Angela said. "I'm just checking on her incision and pulmonary status." He smiles, pulling the curtains in front of the door, "Where's Maura?"
"She's in the cafeteria with the kids. She's barely been eating and sleeping Doc..." Angela held Jane's hand as JD looked at the chart. "I can call for a psych eval if you'd like. I still have privileges here." He looked up.
"Can you?" "I'll send someone up here in a bit." JD gave the chart back before gloving up.
"So Doc, can I ask you something?" "Sure." "How quickly do the kids bounce back from this surgery? Maura mentioned that you are the head of Cardio at Robbin Herman's Children's Hospital."
"Well," JD briefly paused to listen to Jane's heart, "The littler ones are up and about in four days, the older ones very, usually five or six. However, given the severity of Jane's case, it could be longer based on her brain. Doctor Shepherd is wanting to slowly wean her off of sedation starting tomorrow to see how her brain is doing, but in all honesty, her body is doing better like this. We'll wait and see."
His eyebrows knit. "What's wrong Doc?" Angela asked. JD turned to the nurse, "How long ago did her bloodwork go out?"
"They just drew some twenty minutes ago." "Call down to the lab and have them put a rush on it. Also call the OR and tell them to have a room on standby." He said.
