Maura was slightly hesitant to meet with Jane, but agreed to anyway.
They decided to meet in a neutral place without the kids.
"Thank you for meeting with me." Jane sheepishly said. "It's no big deal." Maura looked at her phone.
"I, uh, wanted to apologize for what I did. I didn't mean to frighten you and I definitely didn't mean to choke you." "It's okay."
"That's all you have to say?" "Huh?" "It's okay? Maura, I had no idea that I could or was capable of doing what I did. I hurt you and all you can say is okay?" Jane was hurt.
"I have nothing to say." "You should." "What's that supposed to mean?" "You know what it means."
Maura was taken aback, "I am drowning, Jane. I am trying to raise your kids and at the same time make sure that you aren't going off the deep end at the same damn time. So forgive me for having nothing to say."
"Do you think that?" "What?" "That I'm going so far off the deep end that you have to make sure that I'm okay?"
Maura sighed, "What I meant to say is that I am trying to keep you from hurting others or yourself. It's hard for me and it is a bit frustrating."
"Well, good to know that you're doing for me what I am trying to do for myself." Jane stood up. "Where are you going?" Maura asked.
"Home, then on a run. Call me when you get out of your savior complex." Jane started to walk away, but Maura grabbed her hand. "I don't have a savior complex and screw you for thinking that."
Jane pulled her hand away, "You do. You just don't see it the way I do." She walked away.
Maura sat in almost shock. She didn't have a savior complex and it was quite hurtful that Jane thought so. She took a long, shaky breath as she began to self reflect.
She was doing the right thing by making sure that Jane wasn't a danger to herself or others...right?
She was doing the right thing as Jane had been held prisoner for years then in a comatose state for weeks so it made sense that she was doing the right thing.
But why did it feel like she had failed Jane?
Maura was in a state of dissociation that she didn't realize that the waitress had come over and asked her a question.
"Huh? Oh, I'm sorry. What did you say?" She said to the waitress. "I was just asking if your friend was coming back or if you'd like me to take her dishes away?" The waitress looked slightly uncomfortable.
"Yes, go ahead. Oh and here." Maura pulled out a fifty from her purse, "Keep the change."
"Thank you Ma'am. You have a good rest of your day." The waitress smiled before walking away.
Maura looked out of the window and watched the rain come down harder than it had been earlier.
She sighed. She was going to make this right...
...somehow.

Sorry for the later than promised update!
It's been a busy few weeks and on top of that when I went to publish this, my apartment's internet went down and I had to delay the release of this chapter. I also am not a fan on how this chapter turned out, but after three rewrites I gotta keep this story moving.
As we do come close to the end of this one, I will probably start working on revising other projects and might start another in the future.
But for now, let's keep on rolling!
