TW: Violence, Suicidal thoughts (maybe)

Oświęcim, Poland

The first thing Yara felt when she woke up, was pain. Everything was hurting. It was like her body was on fire. She was confused. Why was she still alive? She was supposed to be dead.

Two feelings were overshadowing any other emotions she felt: disappointment and, ironically, relief. Disappointment, because the serum evidently didn't work, but also relief, because it seemed like she had gotten another chance at life and she wanted to use this chance properly this time.

But first, where was she? Yara heard steps and someone was breathing very close to her. She wasn't alone and she was moving. Someone was carrying her. The brunette groaned as she opened her eyes and took a look around. She was being carried by someone she recognized.

"Natasha?" Her voice was hoarse and barely more than a whisper, but the Avenger had still heard her. The blonde stopped and set Yara down on the floor.

"Yes. And I have the file. Let's go."

Yara sat up, groaning in pain. She had a pounding headache and her vision was blurry. Natasha grabbed the brunette by her shoulder and helped her get up from the floor. That's when Yara noticed the children, who had been silently walking beside Natasha and were now waiting for the two women.

"Why are they here?", Yara inquired with a low, rough voice. She was leaning on the Avenger as they started moving again.

"I couldn't leave them alone, but I also wasn't going to leave you here", Natasha replied in a tone that didn't leave space for objections.

Yara scolded herself in her head. She should have seen this coming.

Noone spoke another word and they kept walking until the group reached a familiar door. This was where she had become immortal and where she had left Griebel. Yara stopped. She wanted to see him, to make sure that he was still there and that he was gone. But Natasha pulled her forward to keep walking. Yara resisted a little but gave up quickly.

They had just reached the heavy steel door when a voice echoed through the hallway and caused all four of them to stop in their tracks.

"Where do you think, you're going?"

Yara recognized the voice and reacted immediately. She pushed Natasha and the children forward and locked the door behind them, effectively trapping herself and Griebel in here. This was her fight and she wanted to end this once and for all.

The brunette ignored the sound of someone banging on the door and turned around to be met with a smug grin that she had grown to hate. She was surprised that Griebel had regained his consciousness this quickly and she was even more surprised that he had managed to get here by himself, but she didn't ask about it. It didn't really matter to her, as long as she finally took him down.

If she was honest with herself, she was glad that Griebel had caught her just in time. Deep down, she knew that she wouldn't have been able to move on and change without being sure that Griebel was gone. Prison wasn't enough for her. She needed to see with her own two eyes that he was finally gone.

Yara remembered Griebel's last words to her before he had passed out earlier and she didn't see why he would have lied. She knew that killing the man wasn't enough to finally escape her past, but, particularly during her month here, Griebel had become somewhat of an embodiment of everything bad that has happened to her since her plane crash about 90 years ago. She wasn't sure if his death would help her in any way, but she hoped it would and she knew that the world would be a little less dark without him in it.
