Paris, France
Yara became suspicious when she met the giant again the next day. Was he following her? Yara wasn't sure if she was being paranoid, but she didn't like coincidences like this, and she grew wary, especially when they ran into each other once again the next day. What was this? Why wasn't he leaving her alone. The first time, Yara wasn't even sure if he had seen her, but she had also done her best to make sure, he wouldn't notice her. The second time, he was the one who noticed her.
"Hey", he greeted her as she was scanning through a selection of bread, trying to decide what she wanted to eat for breakfast.
She didn't look up when she copied his greeting.
"I assume you got back alright the other day", the tall man tried to be nice. Yara might have appreciated it if she hadn't become suspicious and if she were someone who enjoyed meeting people. Since neither was the case, she didn't acknowledge what he had said. In retrospect, she realized that she tended to be quite rude at times, but she didn't notice or care then.
"You did get back with no problems, right?", the guy misread the lack of reaction from her.
"I did", Yara responded shortly, wanting to get rid of him. She finally decided what she wanted to get and told the lady behind the counter.
"Well, that's good", the guy responded awkwardly.
After Yara had paid for the sandwich and the guy still hadn't left, she left the shop. The man followed her outside, where Yara confronted him.
"I appreciate your concern, but I'm fine."
The guy looked somewhat uncomfortable. He nodded awkwardly. "I know."
Yara gave him a look of confusion and intrigue. She waited for him to explain himself. He continued growing more uncomfortable.
"I mean, you obviously know how to deal with ... men."
Yara raised her eyebrows. If this guy was following her and had any bad intentions, he was either awful at his job or he was the best actor, she had ever seen. She had learned over decades to be a suspicious, careful person. Therefore, she had to assume for now that the second option was entirely possible, but her gut told her that he meant no harm.
"Right", Yara finally said with a smirk and walked past him. To her, the conversation was over.
"Have a nice day", the guy spoke up behind her.
Yara nodded and continued on her way. This time, she knew that she had been rude, but she didn't care, thinking that she wouldn't ever see him again. She forgot, however, that the world was a small place. Or at least Earth had become rather small, relatively speaking.
She saw him again a few hours later at the very same place where she was working for the week. She had never noticed him there before, which was strange considering his height.
"Funny that we should meet again so soon."
Yara had done her very best to ignore his presence up until then. Unfortunately, when he noticed her, he didn't do the same. Perhaps, it spoke for his personality. I was just trying to be nice, but Yara felt irritated.
"Yes, very funny", she muttered under her breath.
"You know, it almost seems like destiny is trying to bring us together", he theorized.
Yara looked up at him curiously from her computer, which she was working at. Did he actually believe that? He looked amused, like he was joking. Yara returned her focus to the screen. "It sure does."
A brief silence followed. Yara was hoping the guy would leave her alone, but she could feel his presence behind her. After a while, she heard his heavy footsteps as he left her alone.
