Ahhh chapter 2!! I don't know why posting things is scary but yes it is lol. Anyway, this chapter ya'll get to learn about werecreatures along with Luz!
Amity POV:
Of course, just my luck. She had to get werecreatures—my species! What if she thinks I'm a freak! Maybe she'd be open to it.. Luz wouldn't hate me for what I am, right? Right..
"Hello, Earth to Amity!"
"Huh?! OOH sorry was thinking, come again?"
Luz giggled, "I was asking about werecreatures. That's what my project's on."
"Oh right," I returned, pretending I hadn't already heard her. I paused, carefully formatting sentences in my head. I needed to give Luz a good impression of my species. After a few moments, I started explaining.
"For a very simple explanation: You know how witches can get cursed?"
"Mhm." Luz's eyes glowed with curiosity.
"Well if a cursed witch has a child, there's a chance that the witchling will become a werecreature.. 'Werecreature' is the umbrella term for a ceature who can transform between two forms—typically a witches form and a beast form. Benefits and weaknesses vary for each case.." My voice trailed off at the end; I wasn't exactly sure how to talk about my species. I tried to keep it as monotone and factual as possible, but it was hard not to feel weird describing my species.
"Wow! That's actually really neat!" Her face was full of genuine amazement, which pleasantly surprised me. I still wasn't sure if I was ready to tell her though. It's one of those things you'll never really be ready so say.
I had gone thinking again and she noticed, "Oh.. do you not think they're cool? I mean I don't know much about them.. but it's not like they're inherently evil, right?"
"Oh no no no!" All I needed to do was give her a good impression of werecreatures and help her with her project, but I've already failed the former.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming again! I uh.. personally think werecreatures are cool, although I um.. I feel bad for them. That can't be easy." I sighed internally. No matter how many fun nights I had running on all fours, my parents would never view me the same as if I was a normal witch.
"Hmm. Never thought of it that way. I mean I guess I only learned of them a couple minutes ago, but.. I have like a million questions now!"
I smiled as her eyes lit up with the same curiosity. Knowing that she was so open to learning about werecreatures made me happy and relieved. Luz always did have that spark of joy that would magically brighten everyone around her.
"Alright, ask away!" I said.
Luz POV:
She had really captivated my attention. This history project was going to be a lot more interesting than I had anticipated.
"Ok, first question: So in the human realm, we have this idea of 'werewolves.' Basically human-like creatures that transform into wolves during a full moon. Oh and if you get bitten, you become a werewolf! Is that the same as it is here?"
"Yes and no," Amity began, "There are werewolves, just like there are werelions, werehorses, wereotters, werecats, and a lot of other creatures."
"Ooo! How are there so many?" I always loved werewolf stories but never imagined wereotters!
"Well, it's partially determined by the parent's curse, but different circumstances from when and where a werecreature was born also play a factor—it's really complicated. Different types of werecreatures have different side effects. Yes, some werewolves must transform during the full moon, but not all. Again depends on the circumstances."
