Y/n's POV:

"Do you want to go for a walk in the fresh air and have a normal conversation?" I ask after a few minutes spent in silence. Elizabeth slowly pulls away from me, removing her hands from my back and our eyes meet again in an attempt to explain everything to each other without words.

"Actually, I have a lot of things to do today, but if my assistant agrees to help me with them, then I don't mind," she says, biting her lip nervously. She was scared of losing me.

"Well, you're lucky that your assistant cares too much about you to leave you with this amount of unfinished business," I answer, while casually studying her heavenly beautiful features, which only a few minutes ago expressed only the desire to wipe me out of existence.

She only gives me a guilty smile without saying a word, and my hand, against my will, reaches for a strand of blond hair that has fallen out to return it to its place. The moment my fingers touch the soft skin of her cheek, it's like a bolt of lightning passes through our eye contact. She is my source of life, which is also going to be the reason of my death.

"Let's go then," she says under her breath as she picks up her purse, office keys and I just nod my head at her, letting her grab her stuff before we leave the building.

"So," I begin, handing her the coffee I just bought, "what's going on between us? Have I offended you in some way?" I immediately move on to something that has been bothering me for past several days.

She refuses to look at me again, keeping her eyes on random things in our way, and I don't pressure her, giving her time to collect her thoughts and explain everything to me as it is.

"Remember how you answered me last Sunday morning?" After a moment of silence, her voice is permeated with uncertainty and stiffness.

"Of course, why?"

"I thought you slept with Taylor that night...," her gait slows and she looks up to meet my curious eyes.

"I understand that I have no reason to care about this, let alone be angry at it, but then the feeling that you so easily exchanged me for another person swallowed me up and I couldn't find the strength to calmly talk to you, ask for reassurance or something like that... I'm sorry, that sounds awfully dumb and of course you deserve much better regard, I'm so sorry," she starts to chatter, accompanying this with nervous gestures and a trembling voice.

"Hey, please stop, El," I take her hand in mine to stop her from spilling coffee on her crisp white shirt. "And that's why you ignored me for two days?" I don't understand her behavior at all, because each time it more and more confuses things between us.

Her guilty look speaks for itself as she unconsciously squeezes my hand tightly. I have already forgiven her, but I'm not at all happy at the prospect of her being in a bad mood because of things related to me and taking this out on me too. I'm not going to interfere in her too personal feelings now and ask what exactly caused such emotions, because in fact I'm afraid to hear something that could destroy everything between us.

I don't have to justify myself to her, but I want her to know and be sure that I don't need anyone. Anyone but her, but these words, of course, will never leave my mouth.

"Nothing happened that night," her hands let go of mine and we slowly start to walk again, "I just had to make sure that nothing happened to Tay, that's all. I'm not interested in any kind of romantic relationship, much less with my ex." I bite my tongue before asking if this is what she wanted to hear.

"And yes, El, I would never trade you for anyone else," a little honesty still escapes me, and I don't regret it one bit, seeing her radiant smile, which I missed so much.
