Y/n's POV:

"You're a stupid paranoid bitch, Y/n," I mumble under my breath as I close the door and leaning on it with my back, slowly sliding down and eventually ending up sitting on the hallway floor.

I had no other choice, my feelings turned out to be much stronger than a sober mind and logic. I know for sure that she will be furious, that I will have to see the burning anger in her eyes again, that this will entail consequences, but I couldn't do otherwise.

Stepping a little closer, I immediately notice her passport, plane ticket and drivers license, lying in a side pocket, which for some reason was left opened. In less than a second, my mind was filled with many questionable ideas. She told me that she was going to take a taxi, so she won't notice if I just...

My hands seemed to reach for the documents on their own, quickly sneaking them out of the pocket as the adrenaline rush in my blood blew out all common sense.

Frightened, first looking around, and then at these three things in my hand, I couldn't think of anything better than throwing them behind the bedside table and closing the pocket of her bag as if nothing had happened.

Hearing Elizabeth's footsteps approaching me, I immediately take a couple of steps back, locking my hands behind me and putting on an awkward smile as I watch her come closer.

Please don't look in your bag, please don't look in your bag... Phew, she just took it without noticing anything.

"...will be back so soon," I don't fully understand what she's telling me, still being not over what I just did. Well, Elizabeth, you have no idea how soon you're actually going to be back.

Collecting my thoughts, I get up on staggering legs, touching the wall with my hand, and go to the bedside table, on which her bag stood only a few minutes ago.

"You had to fucking take all of it, huh?" I silently question the void around me, slightly moving the piece of the furniture towards myself and looking down at the passport, plane ticket, and my girlfriend's driver's license on the floor.

"Well, I mean she probably has an e-ticket and the license could work instead of the passport, so as I should," I continue the nonsensical monologue, pretending that this helps me convince myself that I did everything right.

Picking up all the items from the floor, I move the nightstand back in place and go to the kitchen with a drooping gait, feeling a huge burden of guilt for my act. But I knew for certain that I shouldn't have let her go no matter what it could possibly cost.

Most likely nothing would've happened and it was just my self-persuasion, which I confused with some gut feeling, but I don't regret what I did. Elizabeth will be disappointed and angry, probably won't talk to me for some time and won't let me sleep with her, but everything's going to be okay after all, the main thing that she will be alright.

As soon as I sit on a chair, I hear some buzzing in my pajama pants pocket and reach for my phone, taking it out and glancing reluctantly at the screen, seeing Hailey's name. Shit, I was so caught up in myself that I managed to forget about work. So responsible and mature of you, Y/n.

"Yes?" I answer the call in a low voice, placing my hand on my forehead and closing my eyes, feeling a headache creep up on me.

"Y/n, have you seen the time? When will you come?" Hailey asks in a slightly flustered voice, reminding me of our unfinished project and burning deadlines.

"I won't come today, sorry, I feel terrible." Well, at least I didn't lie.

"Oh... Then heal your ass and get back to work as soon as possible, you know we can't finish without you."
