Y/n's POV:

Barely opening my eyes, the very first thing I feel is how my whole body seems to be shrouded in tongues of hellish flames, while my ears catch two voices and separate words in the distance.

"El?" I croak in a weak voice realizing that no sound even left my mouth and gathering my strength, I call my girlfriend a little louder one more time, feeling my eyes close again from exhaustion.

"Y/n, thank God you're finally awake," Elizabeth's voice seems to come from somewhere near the bed in a few seconds as I realize I'm in our bungalow now which means that thankfully nothing catastrophic has happened.

The back of her hand touches my sweaty forehead gently, brushing her knuckles lightly over it and I let out an exhausted whine, feeling goosebumps all over my body and my teeth start to slightly chatter against each other.

"What happened?" I whisper, still unable to even raise my eyelids and look at her as her hand descends to my hot cheek, stroking it with her thumb.

"Doctor says you got heatstroke," she explains softly and sits next to me on the mattress when I find enough strength to open my eyes, looking at her through the slight mist in my gaze.

"Stupid hat," I whisper back as I see her smile sadly at me as she leans in and presses her wet lips to my forehead in a tender kiss before taking one of my hands in hers and then bringing it to her mouth, planting another kiss on its backside.

"Stupid hat," she repeats before a tall, middle-aged man dressed in a doctor's outfit appears in the doorway behind her, drawing my attention.

"How are you feeling, miss Y/Ln?" He asks coming up to the bed and fixing his studying look on me when Elizabeth gets up from it, standing next to him with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Like I'm gonna die," I answer honestly, seeing El give me a disapproving look, letting me know that I should choose my words next time.

"Headache, nausea, weakness, fever, dizziness?" He continues his mini-interrogation, scribbling something on a small notepad while I struggle to turn over on my side, curling up in a fetal position because of the noticeable discomfort in my stomach.

"Yes," I give a short answer, looking up at my girlfriend and meeting a sympathetic look that flits across her face.

"All of this?" He makes sure, almost making me roll my eyes at the fact that I don't want to talk to anyone but Elizabeth right now, sensing that my clinginess level is now at an extreme.

"Yes," I exhale, wearily reaching out my hand towards El, who immediately takes it in hers, giving me one last glance and turning her head towards the doctor.

"Can you please leave a list of meds and recommendations on the table in the kitchen?" She asks him, receiving a nod of understanding in response before he turns around and exits the room, leaving the two of us alone again while she sits down next to me.

"I'm so sorry," I speak in a quiet tone, almost on the verge of crying at being disappointed in my childish behavior today and that we can't even have a normal vacation because something keeps happening.

"You don't have to be sorry for anything, bubs," Elizabeth reassures me, placing her open palm under my cheek, knowing for sure that this is one of the things that puts me at ease.

"I should have listened to you," I protest, pressing harder against her hand as her other one strokes my hair, lightly scratching my scalp with her short fingernails.

"No, I should have been more insistent, this is my fault," she replies sadly, letting me know that once again she blames herself in something that she clearly doesn't have anything to do with, so long as I don't remain guilty in it.
