(Wrote two versions, see which one you like more.)
I see you weep,
tears falling through your cracked face.
Your laugh, it's what they reap,
it's time that I now race.
I coax a weak smile,
sing you to a dreamless sleep.
If only to stop the tears for awhile,
to make the waters less deep.
(Extended version)
I see you weep,
tears falling through your cracked face.
Your laugh, it's what they reap,
it's time that I now race.
I coax a weak smile,
sing you to a dreamless sleep.
If only to stop the tears for awhile,
to make the waters less deep.
I'll bring you arms and ears,
but those wretched cries I can't take.
I'll trap and throw away all those fears,
if only to lessen the burden for your sake.
I'll bare my back for the weight,
your thoughts and my back naked.
But I can't catch the tears that have fallen too late,
those are the only things too sacred.
I'll do anything to lessen the pain,
but my hands are only big enough.
Your wet sorrows making my fingers feel inane,
and my hands are only tough enough.
I see you weep,
and each day we fall a bit more.
And through fingers water seeps,
because those tears can only make the bruise more sore.
(Second version)
I see you weep,
tears falling through your cracked face.
Your laugh, it's what they reap,
it's time that I now race.
I coax a weak smile,
sing you to a dreamless sleep.
If only to stop the tears for awhile,
to make the waters less deep.
Why do you care,
that through those cracks tears leak.
Your own thin fabric worn from my tears,
and your own ears havoc wreaks.
You see me weep,
But I see you with your face drained.
Drooping yet a hopeful smile about to leap,
because it's been so long and still my sorrows you contain.
