Chapter 3. Lovely brother

Altagracia didn't utter a single word when they started speaking. They spoke and laughed merrily about their day while Altagracia felt odd. Karen smiled at her and ask.

"So what do you do for a living, dear? " She asked and Olivia chuckled.

"I heard she was enrolled in a huge scandal in her past company getting her fired"

"Olivia!" Scolded her father she surrendered, not without shooting a mocking gaze at Altagracia. The latter bit in a piece of carrot and chewed casually before answering.

"I used to work as the manager of the advertisement department"

"A job she got from whoring around " Muttered Olivia and Kenneth burst out laughing before clearing his throat.

"Do I look like a whore to you?" Asked Altagracia rising from her sit, glaring daggers at Olivia. The latter dropped the act and glared at her.

"I don't know, you tell me" She said defiantly and Altagracia was about to snap at her when someone hit his fist on the table, making all the plates bounce.

"Enough. It wasn't your question to answer in the first place, not to mention the way you treat Altagracia when she's just from arriving, apologize immediately Olivia" Ordered Devon and Olivia rolled her eyes.

"I'm sorry okay" I wasn't the least bit sincere but Altagracia let it go for the sake of her father with whom she will have a discussion later on.

The dinner continued but Kenneth who didn't tell her anything suddenly spoke.

"What was that scandal all about? " Asked Kenneth and Karen glared at him.

"Kenneth Parker! " Karen chided.

"What? I'm just curious about my sister " He said with a sarcastic chuckle and Olivia took it as her cue to speak.

"There were videos and pictures of her sleeping with the general manager of the company" She informed with a grin.

"Shit! " Kenneth swore somehow surprised. Altagracia couldn't take it anymore and stood and left to her room.

Those pictures and videos were doctored. But nobody back in country S believed her, who will believe her here. Two knocks a the door resounded and her father entered.

"Grace, I'm sorry for their behavior. They can sometimes be ill-mannered. " He said and she sighed.

"You told me you married my mother first, then came back to marry your actual wife."

"It's true and I'm sorry and didn't want you to feel bad."

"I don't like surprises. So please inform me when something like that is going to happen again"

"You have my word. It doesn't change the fact that I still love you dearly. Should I ask the maid to bring your food up here? "

"No it's not necessary, I'll rest a little"

"Okay and tomorrow, we are going on a tour to our various companies. You might even meet Ethan"

"Ethan? "

"My second son, he will be here tomorrow morning" Seemingly sensing her discomfort, he added. "He is nothing like the others, I promise" He said and left.

"I love you Grace" He said and she didn't answer. As soon as he closed the door, she called her mother, telling her everything was fine. She took the resolution to be more patient. She couldn't let herself being provoked every time.

Soon enough, light peeked through her curtains and she woke up, showered and left to go grab some breakfast when she heard a male voice booming from downstairs. Follows by Olivia running down and following her, she saw her diving into a tall guy's arms. He had ashy blonde hair, blue eyes and tone muscle and looked like he was in his mid twenties. He was a really pretty boy. He caught her as easily as with a ball and dropped her.

"You're now a real man Ethan, you can carry me" She said teasingly ruffling his hair.

"Hey! It took me time to come out with this hairstyle, dummy" He said and she hit his arm.

"Were did you get the audacity to call me dummy? " She pursed her lips. He was about to explain when his gaze froze on Altagracia.

He smiled gently which was surprisingly sincere and walked towards her.

"You must be Altagracia, right? I'm Ethan, nice to meet you" He said and she smiled shyly.

"BREAKFAST! oh Ethan you're there, come hug mummy" Karen said and Ethan chuckled walking to her with a smile and kissed her cheek. They all walked to the kitchen and she was about to slip outside when Ethan came and grabbed her hand.

"Mum doesn't cook often, but her pancakes are the best ever" He whispered and winked at her.

This was... new. She sat at the isle with Ethan next to her.

"Ethan has finally got the little sister he had always wanted, don't blame him" Teased Maria and Ethan blushed slightly before coughing twice when Kenneth and Devon entered.

"I see you've already met Ethan" He said smiling at Alta and she nodded.

"You haven't said a word since you came down, are you okay? " Asked Olivia and Altagracia could have believed she was sincere is she hadn't provoked her the day before. Sensing the tension, Ethan picked a suitcase and said,

"I've bought gifts for all of you" He said and they were all happy and grinning, except Altagracia who thought she wasn't concerned by this. "Dad, this is for you. A new pen much more better than the one I broke." He said and his father unwrapped his gift happily with a smile. "Mum, a vase to put your favorite flowers in"

"Thank you darling, muacks" She placed a kiss on his cheek.

"Olivia, I know you like jewelries, so I bought this set of emerald earrings" He said placing the box in her eager hands. She smiled.

"Thank you, you're the best little brother in the world"

"And for you Altagracia, since I didn't know exactly what you like, I bought you this diamond watch, hope you'll like it" He said handing the box to her and she stood shocked.

"For me?" She asked just to be sure and he nodded. She took the box and unwrapped the box, opened it to see a glistening watch inside.

"It's really beautiful, but I can't accept it, it should have cost..."

"It's a gift, and I insist. I will be really hurt if you refuse it" He said with a pleading gaze and she nodded.

"It's really beautiful, thank you" She said and immediately wore it to show him how happy she was with it. He grinned and they continued eating.

Just then, they realised, he brought a gift for everyone, except for Kenneth. This one leaned towards his brother and asked with an awkward smile.

"Haven't you forgotten someone? " He asked and Ethan's face immediately became sullen.

"My girlfriend isn't a sufficient gift for you? " He snapped at Kenneth leaving every body bewildered.
