A man in his early fifties was sitting in a casino, drinking, while holding a beautiful woman. His name was Devon Parker. Other men sat round the table, exchanging jokes, and mocking at those who went bankrupt.

"I win again" Said another man slapping his deck on the table. The values were, K, Q, J, 10, 9, all spade.

"Oh no" Devon sighed seeing the huge amount of coins in front of him being pushed to the winner. The woman sensing the guy will go bankrupt, shifted away from him, but he was too absorbed in his game to realise it.

His eyes became bloodshot. He was obviously the loosing one and he had won only one turn. But he refused to give up.

"Gentlemen, the next bet is 1 million dollars. Are you willing to play? " Asked the decker with a seductive voice. They all burst into laughter and called it. Devon reluctantly lifted his hand and the others mocked at him.

"Are you sure you can still afford to bet? " Asked one.

"Yeah, I heard the Parkers were on the verge of collapsing" Another chimed in sarcastically.

"All of you shut up! " Devon bellowed but no one cared about him or what he had to say.

The Parker had long lost the influence and power they once had and we're reduced to being a third tier family in Los Angeles, due to their only heir casino addiction. He dilapidated all their revenues and they were pretty sure his family didn't know about this.

"I'm sure I can win this tour. Once I win, you will beg for my forgiveness" He said as haughty as ever. The others chuckled and the game started. The decker shuffled the cards and distributed it.

When Devon lifted his cards, his face fell. Nobody could do worse that this, he was sure. Few minutes later, a few burly men arrived after their hands had being revealed and asked Devon to pay the debt he owed the casino. It was a total of 800 grands, plus 60 grands interest.

"I didn't get the money this turn but if you borrow me another 800..."

"Bullshit, do you take us for fools old foggy ? Listen attentively, give it now, or go back with a broken hand today, tomorrow, your next hand and so on till you refund the debts or get all the bones in your body shattered" Said a burly man and two others immediately stood behind him, holding him down with one hand flat on the table.

"So what do you say? " Said the burly man asked impatiently, playing with a hammer. Devon broke out in cold sweat. The problem was that all his actual bank account were empty and he could only go home and try to steal his wife's card, but that will mean he will have his hand broken which will definitely cripple his hand, something he didn't want at all.

He was at the verge of getting his hand broken when a masked man appeared all of a sudden. He held an ivory cane and it was no doubt he was advanced in years, and it was further confirmed when he spoke.

"Wait a minute." The burly man, stopped dead in his tracks. Members who wore masks were deliberately filthy rich and figures they couldn't afford to offend.

"Good evening sir, may I help you?" Ask the burly man with the hammer only to be royally ignored hey the wealthy man. Instead, the latter turned towards Devon and said,

"I can refund all the debts you have in this Casino and even give you an additional five millions dollars to save the Parker's empire. But I'll have two conditions. One, once I give you my money it's not to gamble with it, so you better rearrange yourself" He said and the Devon nodded vigorously.

"You have my word, I'll never set foot in a casino again, I swear" And he really meant it. He almost had his right hand broken. The old man chuckled.

"Your words are worthless to me, but I have my own ways to make sure you would stick to your word" He said coldly and a shiver ran down the spine of everyone present. He exuded a domineering aura making everyone reckon he should probably be a powerful figure.

"What are you waiting for, scan this card and extract the debts of Mr Parker" He ordered and the burly man unfroze and bowed down apologetically.

"Yes sir, but, the total of all his debts is around 3.8 million and some of the debtors are not present"

"Do I have to teach you your job too. Just make sure then get the money, you good-for-nothing."

"Y-yes sir"

"Make sure it really reaches them, or else..." He left his threat hanging and walked towards Devon.

"What are you waiting for? Stand up" Devon immediately stood up. He was no fool, so he knew he had to obey this man for the time being. After her retrieved his card, they both walked towards a shiny black Rolls Royce and he got in removing his mask.

Devon was utterly shocked. He praised himself for being sensible enough not to piss this personality. Simply because his name was Edmund Hales, the most powerful and wealthy man in the whole of Los Angeles, known to be extremely ruthless.

He handed a file to Devon, and the more he read the more his face paled. This scandal couldn't explode here. If his wife heard about it, he will be doomed. Seeing the expression on Devon face, Edmund sneered and added.

"You have one week to make her agree to your request of marrying my grandson."

"I haven't talked to her in years, she will definitely know something is amiss"

"I don't care. You better think of a way to make her accept. Anyways, the five millions had already being transferred to your account" He said and Devon shook his head.

"I-I can't, if my wife finds out. Just get your money back, I'll find a way to refund everything with interest, I... " Edmund chuckled before narrowing his hawk like eyes on Devon. The latter's heart skipped a beat.

"I think you don't yet understand the predicament in which you are. I don't care about the money. I have enough for ten of my generation to still live as the biggest family in Los Angeles. You have a week or you won't be able to bear the consequences. Drive" He ordered the driver and they left a flustered Devon on the roadside.
