"Stop staring at me, it's creepy"
I gave the girl who's been staring at me for the past thirty minutes a side-eye.
We haven't talked about what happened last night since just as we woke up Sevika showed up, banging on the door and yelling for us to get our asses to the airship which we are using to get to the shipment place. And I won't lie, I was kind of glad that I didn't need to be with Jinx completely alone and talk about anything. It wasn't like I hated her or didn't like her, its just that I regret what happened yesterday.
Jinx only frowns, yet it's replaced by a grin in a second," it's romantic", she leans in closer, both of her hands gripping the wooden barrel that I was sitting on.
The words I accidentally let out yesterday repeated in my mind without a break and I felt dumb for letting myself be weak near her. It was just a dumb mistake, I should have never said anything.
"Jinx, I-"
Before I could tell her that everything was just a mistake and that we should stop whatever was going on between us, Sevika stepped into my view," cmon we're already here", she paused sparing a glance at Jinx who was glaring at her, clearly annoyed," and you. You go downstairs"
"What?! why? Im staying up here with Y/N", the girl finally let go of the barrel, stepping closer to Sevika. Height differences were huge and it looked cute the way Jinx stood in front of the giant woman and protested like a chihuahua.
At that thought, I laughed out loud, snoring like a pig. Sevika threw me an annoyed look as if telling me to shut the fuck up and her eyes fell back to the short girl," there's no need for you to be here".
Jinx huffed out in anger, yet, didn't continue to protest, she only turned around and before walking away looked at me with a smile on her face and a wink.
Finally, the tension that was on my shoulders fell down and I let out a sigh while hopping down from the barrel.
"Rough night?" Sevika grinned, folding her arms on her chest.
My brows crashed together when confusion hit me," what?" I followed in the direction where her eyes were looking and my cheeks went bright red. I mentally cursed myself for forgetting to hide the hickeys that Jinx left on my skin, just below my collarbone.
I didn't even blink before automatically covering it with my palm," it's not what it looks like". I was ready to come up with lies and excuses that it wasn't Jinx's job, but by the look that Sevika gave me, I realized that she won't buy it.
Sevika burst out laughing at the way I paused," shut up", I grumbled.
_____________
" Uh, shipment manifest?" The guy's voice was uncertain as he examined the figures of Silcos henchmen, then Sevika who stood right in front of him, and then his eyes fell onto me. I took it as a chance to drop a pouch of coins on his papers making him flinch slightly and I loved it, the way he was in fear only by meeting my eyes brought excitement to my chest.
" from your friend. downtown.", Sevika spoke, her voice much lower than ever. A slight grin on her face showed me that she might be enjoying this too. The guy stamped the paper placing it out for Sevika to take it and she yanked it out of his hand harshly.
I turned to the dudes carrying the last barrels of shimmer, crossing my arms onto my chest feeling proud and relieved that everything went smoothly so far. Yet, this strange feeling of anxiety rose in my stomach, I knew something was wrong, and the airship began shaking almost unnoticeably.
"Ah, shit! The firelights!", someone yelled just a few feet away from me, and before I knew it one of the firelights was flying in my direction.
The only weapon I had on me was my bat right now and I made sure to smack the stupid firelight from its hoverboard. The girl went flying from her board and hit the floor with a loud thud, shaking her head from the dizziness and backing away as I began stepping her way.
I didn't bother to get distracted by Sevika and others getting stuck in the crystals that were thrown by the firelights. Yet, I failed to catch a glimpse of another one making its way to me.
With his metal pipe, he hit me before I could dodge it, and I rolled over the railings, luckily grabbing the edge tightly.
My muscles screamed at the sudden weight on them while I hung from the ledge. Fear that I've never felt before seemed to swallow me as I glanced down below. It was high, so high I could feel my skin crawling, I felt like crying and I'm sure a single tear escaped my eye, not only at the fear but also at the pain caused by the firelights pipe and the metal ledge cutting into my fingers.
A grunt echoes from my lips while I tried to pull myself up, however, I was too weak. More tears escaped my eyes as the hopelessness crept over my chest. Fast and short memories of Jinx ran through my mind. And that's when I felt it; fearless, relaxed, as if a heavyweight was taken off my chest and back, I was ready to let myself go and give up.
Before my hands could give up, pale fingers gripped my arms, and I knew who it was by the manicured long nails.
Jinx pulled me up, surprisingly without much effort, and I climbed over the railings of the airship. Turns out I was so focused on keeping myself alive that I didn't notice or hear how Jinx took out most of the firelights.
" Are you crazy? What the fuck were you thinking?", the blue-haired girl looked at me as if I was totally out of my mind and I couldn't understand why.
I opened my mouth, yet nothing came out as I was still too shocked to speak," I..."
"You could have died!", Jinx looked down at her hands for some reason, perhaps trying to hide those tears that I already caught sight of. It was hard for me to hear her painful voice, it was hurting me too and I don't know why, but I chose to ignore it.
" where's Sevika?", suddenly my eyes searched for any of Silcos henchmen, leading me to notice all the fire and dead bodies around. Jinx seemed to calm down, wiping her tears with her wrists harshly and grabbing mine.
"They left, we need to go before enforcers show up".
__________
My eyes were tired and my body exhausted, even so, I couldn't close them. I was too terrified that when I open them back again I will be hanging from the ledge as I had four hours ago.
Heavy raindrops splashed onto the cobblestone behind the windows of Jinx's room, being the only sound in my ears right now. Jinx wasn't here, and it made me feel a bit anxious. Two hours ago she left and I began to miss her. It wasn't just a small wish, it was a need. Even if I felt ashamed to have feelings for Jinx, I needed her here.
Without thinking I curled my knees into my chest as if trying to protect myself from nothing, still laying on the soft mattress and staring at the window through the darkness. My body yerking when the doors opened. The silhouette of two long braids let me know that it was Jinx and the tension in my shoulders disappeared.
She thought I was sleeping and didn't say a word, only sauntered to the bed, pulling her wet clothes off and tossing them onto the wooden floor.
In a few seconds, she was already beneath the sheets, hugging me from behind and pressing herself hard against my back. It was cold outside, yet, her body was radiating warmth," I know you're not sleeping, toots", she grinned into my skin, squeezing me tighter as if hugging me once again.
I cleared my throat quietly before speaking," how's Silco?". I knew he was pissed at me and Jinx because we- I jinxed the job.
Jinx let out a nervous laugh and I could hear the sadness in her voice that she tried to hide, " oh you know...he wasn't that mad" a giggle left her lips for the last time and she places her chin on my shoulder," are you okay?".
Jinxs warm yet cold palm stroked my belly and that was all I needed in the whole world," now I am" a smile tugged my lips as I snuggled harder into the soft pillow.
"But you almost died"
I hummed quietly at her words," What if death could be beautiful? Think about it, no sadness, no problems, only silence, and peace"
There was a short silence between us, "Do you think Mylo and Claggor are in peace?", Jinx's voice broke and it was more quiet than usual.
A small sense of hesitation took over me, yet I knew she felt guilty for what she did and it was crushing her, so I still replied with fake confidence," they are"
