Muir shielded me from the trees, taking the brunt of it all before we landed into the water. He was now unconscious and was bleeding into the water. I wrapped my arm around him, then swam all my might to the surface with him. Once I broke to the surface, I took a deep breath and breathed a couple of times. I secured Muir in my arms then swam sideways to the shore. I laid him on the ground before climbing out, then I dragged him out of the water. I didn't like treating my mate like this, but I wasn't fully recovered yet.
I panted as I looked around at my surroundings. I knew immediately where we were. This was one of the caves Curtis brought me to. If I remember correctly, there was a cave behind the waterfall. I hoisted Muir onto my back and climbed up the path that Curtis took the last time. I just set Muir down onto the ground safely when I heard flapping of wings. I turned my head finding the hawks by the water.
"I can't see them anywhere. Are they hiding in the water?" One of them shouted. "Go beneath and see."
"Crap! We should've brought someone with a better sense of smell. Muir's injured, so he's definitely not far. We would've caught them already if we had better scent." Another roared.
"Wait!" One shouted, startling me.
"What?" One asked. I immediately averted my gaze, but I felt his gaze look at the cave.
"Let's go." The leader said, making me sigh with relief. I draped over Muir, nuzzling his chest. I pushed what little reiki I had into his body. I could hear the wound start to seal shut. I heard him groan.
Suddenly he wrapped his arms around me, breathing a sigh of relief. He kissed my temple, cupping my cheek. He smiled as he looked upon me.
"Muir." I whimpered as I cried into his chest. I was once again separated from my family. And it was all becuase of narrow-minded people. I only helped that city and then they turned on me. "I'm so glad you're okay."
"Are you all right? Are you injured anywhere?" He asked me. I shook my head no.
"You shielded me and took the brunt of the fall. You reckless bird." I scolded him. He was going to counter me when his eyes shot up to the water. I followed his gaze finding the water receding.
"The water's receding." He got to his feet and held his hand out to me. "I'll take you away from here."
"Okay." I nodded, taking his hand. We carefully went through the falls and when I looked up, I saw a tiger. I flinched the moment I saw it. It focused it gaze onto us and roared.
"Don't worry, it's a wild tiger." Muir told me, holding me into his arms. His soft gaze hardened in an instant when he looked to the tiger. The tiger whimpered and then scurried away with its tail between its legs.
"You're so mean." I chuckled but nuzzled his chest.
He chuckled as he held me close to him. As we stood there for a moment, I couldn't help but think about what the ape king said. Was it true that I would bring disaster? Everything seemed to happen once I entered the city. But then again, I couldn't predict natural disasters like Curtis, let alone see what the future was like, like the ape king. Their world seemed to be going upside down once I came into this world.
"Muir." I said weakly. "Will I really bring disaster?"
"No. You won't." He told me, gently rubbing my arm. "If you still have doubts, don't worry, I'll bring you to the Skysea Cliffs, there are hawks there. If those disasters really come true, no beastmen will be hurt. Does that sound okay?"
