Chapter 30: Tree of Haven

The devil snake that Lena and Jax met flies high in the mountains carrying the ogre's core.

At the very top, a man with yellow snake eyes is sitting on a wide plain field with a tree in the middle of it. He wears white traditional Chinese clothing with black linings with a dragon design on the cloth.

The tree looks magical. Its trunk has a black color while the flowers that fill the branches are mystically white.

The devil snake flaps its wings to land and bows down towards the man facing the tree.

"Did you kill it?" The man said in a low voice.

The devil snake sends an 'sssssss' sound to talk to the man. The man surprisingly understands and stands up. The snake drops the core of the ogre as proof that the ogre was killed.

"I see." The man walks toward the bowing snake and pats its head. The man looks towards the direction where the devil snake said where it met new adventurers with great skills that kill the sinful ogre.

He takes the large core and gives it to the snake to absorb it. Large cores are very rare and can strengthen a beast greatly.

This time, a large core was dropped because it is a quest item which Lena and Jax didn't know since they didn't have the time to look at the drops of the monster.

The snake also said it has seen that those new adventurers were being hunted down by people who also have the symbol of vengeance.

The symbol of vengeance is a curse for hurting a part of the Gaoshan clan.

This clan is famous for its vengeance. They are high and strong beings from the mountains. They are usually beings with a neutral stand but hurting one of them without any reason or killing them, a curse will automatically be put on the players, making them a constant enemy of the Gaoshan clan.

If someone from the Gaoshan clan spotted someone with the curse, they will immediately kill the person.

The annoying penalty of it too is that you will drop a lot of the players' equipment. Normally when the player died, there are 24 hours that the player cannot log in and they drop one random object that they have equipped.

But when a player is inflicted with the symbol of vengeance, they drop most of their equipment and a random object from their inventory will be dropped.

If they are lucky, there would be at least one or two pieces of equipment left to the players.

That's why many didn't want to mess with this clan.

"Good job, Hong se. Anyone who messed with our clan shall pay a heavy price."

There's a huge amount of people who tried raiding the Gaoshen clan's main palace but were defeated by the warriors of the clan and adventurers who sided with the clan.

The mysterious man theorized that maybe those people that the snake devil killed are the ones who are able to escape their wrath. Seems like luck is not on their side.

"The new adventurers that you found skillful are quite interesting in that they are able to escape enemies that are higher level than them and kill a monster that is far from their abilities and level. I'll observe them a bit and think whether they are qualified to carry the task that I will provide them." The black long hair sways as the sunset shines on the back of the mysterious man.

After the terrifying experience of Jax and Lena, both noticed that the sun is started to go down. They decided to stay inside the tree to recover their strength and divide the treasure they have obtain.

"Phew! I thought we were going to die when that snake looks at us." Jax said.

"Yup, luckily he didn't kill us, and not only that but there's a bunch of items were left behind when the PK players that were killed." Lena said.
