(Julie's POV)
We walked through the Brazilian forest before finally arriving in a small town, where the center piece was a big flower that seemed to be at least ten feet tall and wide.
And by "we", I mean Cole and Josh included. They'd finally met, but they still had a long way to go before becoming friends. Or even to be on friendly terms.
My thoughts were interrupted by Josh grumbling to himself. "I really wish I hadn't come...the last thing I want is to run into THEM again," he muttered, crossing his arms with a scowl.
"Who are you talking about, Josh?" I asked.
My brother's face flushed red. "Well-I-um..."
Before I could get another word out, I noticed Donald was talking about meeting up with his friends.
"Oh, yeah! Tío Panchito and Tío José! I remember them!" I spoke up. "Weren't they the guys who used to play music with you in the garage when I was little?"
"Aye," Uncle Scrooge muttered, glaring at Donald. "They were Donald's old college band. The next time you complain about bagpipes, just imagine trying to sleep while your uncle saws away at an accordion!"
Huey and Louie looked at each other nervously as I continued to wander around the town, taking everything in. Webby ran up to me. "Hey, Julie! Whatcha doing?"
"Oh, nothing; just trying to connect a little more with my roots," I explained, shoving my hands in my pockets. "Everyone says that my mom was Hispanic, so I've been preparing a lot for this trip. You know, brushing up on my Spanish, examining the culture...but my brother just seems to be on edge."
"Huh, I wonder why?" Webby asked. Just as she asked that, a pair of arms yanked me backwards. I whipped my head around to face my captor...who just turned out to be...
"Tío Panchito!" I exclaimed, slipping out of his grip. "Comó estás?"
"Muy bien, Julianna!" he replied, rubbing the top of my head. "It's been so long since we've seen you!" He turned to José. "¿Cuánto tiempo ha pasado?" (Translation: How long has it been?)
José thought for a moment. "Well..."
"Diez años, creo," I answered. (Translation: Ten years, I think.) "Before the triplets were born."
Tío Panchito and Tío José looked at me in shock. I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly. "Oh, yeah; I've, uh, been practicing my Spanish a lot these past few weeks," I explained.
Cole slung an arm around my shoulders and pulled me close. "Yeah, her mom was Hispanic. And might I say, Julie's gotten pretty good at learning about her heritage."
I blushed and shoved him a little. "Shut up, you doofus. No, I haven't."
He scoffed. "Pu-lease. You can speak Spanish fluently now, you have an amazing singing voice, and you've been spouting more facts about Hispanic culture lately than Huey and Webby combined!" he said, counting off the facts on his fingers.
"HEY!" Huey and Webby exclaimed.
Panchito and José looked at Cole, then me with knowing looks on their faces. "¿Eres su novio?" José asked Cole. (Translation: Are you her boyfriend?)
Cole's cheeks turned a deep red. He might not be fluent in Spanish, but he sure knew what José had just asked him. "Um...I-uh..."
Josh cleared his throat. "Sí, sí, Julie y Cole están saliendo," my brother replied. He gritted his teeth. "No es que lo apruebe," he muttered under his breath. (Translation: Yes, yes, Julie and Cole are dating. Not that I approve of it.)
