I arrived to the school on time today and went straight to the classroom.
I saw Ms. Thompson on her computer as I entered.
She looked up, "Good morning Talia."
She stood up from her desk.
She grabbed her drink and said, "You drink tea in the mornings too? You should've told me, I would've picked up a cup for you on the way and saved you a stop."
I noticed the string of her teabag on the side of her cup like mine. I don't meet many tea drinkers outside of the cafe.
I just put the cup on my desk, "Actually I live in a cafe with my parents. I could bring you a cup in the mornings and save you the stop and the money."
Her face became serious.
"Really?" She questioned.
I nodded and she grabbed a pen, "Let me write my order down."
I chuckled and she gave me her order. She drank peppermint tea.
I then said, "You drink peppermint tea everyday."
She nodded, "It really wakes you up. And keeps your breath minty."
She should have heartburn.
I sat down and she slowly turned to me, "Can we talk about your kid, if you don't mind."
I hmm'd softly, "Sure...but only if you tell me your age and why you don't have any."
She did a short sigh, "I'm 30 years old and I don't have children because I'm infertile."
Now I felt bad.
I started, "I'm-" She cut me off "Don't be, now you."
I glanced at my lap. "I was 17 and I was in the denial stage of coming to terms with my sexuality. I convinced myself that I was in love with a boy to convince everyone around me. I tried a little too hard."
She had a soft expression so I continued, "I don't regret having a daughter but I was not ready to be a mother and I'm still not...well, I am but I feel like im too late."
She shook her head, "No, Talia you aren't too late."
She came over and sat on the edge of my desk. "You were young and confused and you still had to get through school. It's not too late. And I'm actually really good with children. If you and your daughter need help I can plan play dates where the sole purpose is to bond you two."
That sounded amazing.
I grabbed her hand, "You would? That would really help me."
She nodded with a soft smile, "Of course."
I stared up at her.
Damn she was gorgeous. Who told this woman to be so beautiful.
She blushed softly, "Talia..."
She moved her hand. I zoned back in and looked away
"I'm so sorry, I'm..." I pushed up my glasses, "That was really unprofessional. It won't happen again I promise."
She had a small smirk, "I mean you did just unintentionally tell me you were a lesbian."
I did a soft sigh, "I know, but still, I do apologize. I don't want to ruin this."
She stood up, "You're fine. Besides I like my partners a little mean...and bold. You seem so quiet and nice."
She has no idea.
I just glanced at her, "Well I hope we get to know each other more in the coming semester."
She looked intrigued, "Am I wrong?"
I shrugged, "It's difficult to learn someone when you only know them from work right?"
She nodded "I suppose you're right."
I gave a soft nod and she went back to her desk.
Whew.
