I went downstairs because I was about to head to work but I promised to bring Ms. Thompson her tea.
"Good morning Talia." I heard as I got to the third to last step.
As I entered the cafe I saw my grandmother sitting at a table with Dani.
I was a bit shocked, "Good morning you two. Dani why are you awake so early?"
She then replied with, "Because I spent the night over Grandma's. Didn't notice I was gone?"
I could tell Dani was suffering from abandonment issues because of me and I hated that. But I was the only person to blame.
"I noticed you were gone. I just didn't expect you to be up so early." I said very gently.
She just looked back at her sandwich and continued to eat.
I went to Mama T, "Good morning Mama, can you-"
She put two cups of tea on the table with two bagels.
"Thank you Mama. Where's Mama D?" I asked.
She then said, "She's sleeping in this morning."
I got worried immediately, "Oh, is she alright?"
Mama T nodded and replied, "With Dani over Nelly's, let's just say she had a long night."
I cringed, "Ew."
She chuckled softly. I took the drinks and went to my Grandmother and Dani.
"I'm going to help you with your flash cards when I get off Dani. Have a good day alright." She nodded and I hugged her while kissing her forehead.
"I'll see you later Grandma." I kissed her cheek.
She then said, "Goodbye Talia. You should take Dani to work with you tomorrow."
I hmm'd and Dani looked intrigued
I raised my eyebrow, "I don't know if the school allows us just to bring our kids to school."
Grandma Nelly then said, "The school shouldn't mind. You could simply ask that pretty boss of yours. Something tells me she loves children."
How does she know my boss is pretty.
"Ok...I'll ask today." I said simply.
Dani smiled softly.
"Ok...have a good day at work dear." Grandma said.
And with that I left.
I do want to be a good mother to Dani. Maybe this is the first step.
I drove a little fast to work so our food wouldn't get too cold. I managed to make it with three minutes to spare.
I went to the classroom and I knew I was early because she was still putting her things away.
"Good morning." I said.
She jumped and turned, "Oh gosh, good morning. You remembered the tea?"
I nodded and she looked really happy, "Good because I forgot. My boyfriend and I got into an argument on the way and we didn't stop anywhere."
She came over. I gave her the tea and the sandwich.
"A sandwich too, did you want me to pay you back?" She asked.
I shook my head "It's free, don't worry."
She hugged me, "Thank you Talia."
She smelled heavenly.
"You're welcome." I replied.
She pulled back sipped her drink. She then pulled the cup away from her lips, "Talia..."
I hmm'd and she continued, "I've never seen you without your glasses."
I put my tea down, "Well I don't take them off for just anyone."
Her eyes widened in amusement, "You have rules about taking your glasses off."
I nodded softly, "Yes. I only ever do it if I'm being serious or flirtatious. I feel like my glasses are a physical indication of which Talia you're talking to."
She looked really intrigued.
Then I thought of my grandmother, "But I meant to ask you. Is it ok if I bring my daughter to class tomorrow? She's four and my Mother homeschools her. She's quiet and causes no trouble."
"Sounds like a mini you." She said with a soft smile.
I tilted my head, "Possibly..."
She then said, "Sure, I love kids."
Good, Dani will be so excited.
"I really can't see you without your glasses? Please?" I chuckled and shook my head
"Ok..." She began to negotiate, "What if you take them off...and just act like you saw me at a party or something."
I raised my eyebrow, "You want me to hit on you?"
She nodded and said, "Yes it'll be fun. And I could give you tips on how to woo older women."
I sighed softly. "I'd like to warn you." I turned away, "I am my mother's daughter."
I took off my glasses and took my hair down.
"Did you want me to hit on you like a single girl or one with a boyfriend?"
She sounded amused as she said, "One with a boyfriend."
I raked my fingers through my hair.
I turned around and she immediately said, "Wow you're gorgeous."
I hmm'd softly, "It's like you took the words out of my mouth."
I could sort of make out her expressions. It wasn't like I had my contacts in.
"I'm sorry, I saw you and I couldn't help but come over and introduce myself. I'm Talia."
She played along, "Olivia. And I'm flattered but I do have a boyfriend."
I nodded softly, "Can he fight?"
She chuckled, "You'd fight him even though you just met me."
I shrugged, "I know when I'm looking at my future."
She hmm'd, "Does your future consists of strictly one liners. Sorry, not interested."
I nodded, "Understandable. Then what are your interests?"
She folded her arms, "I enjoy quality time the most."
I copied her body language, "Oh...so you like picnics?"
She shook her head, "I'm more of a drive in movie type of girl."
I smirked softly, "It's a date then. What time should I pick you up?"
She chuckled softly, "I told you I had a boyfriend."
I nodded, "And I told you I'd beat his ass. So where do we go from here."
I gently grabbed her hand. "I like you Olivia."
I looked into her eyes and I could see her blush.
I quickly stepped back and turned around.
I grabbed my glasses, "But yeah. It goes something like that."
I put them on and said, "I'm going to go put my hair up."
I went to the gender-neutral bathroom. I ran the water and just took deep breaths.
I need to calm down.
