Talia

It had been a month since our date.

Dani and I had gotten closer with the help of Liv. We had play dates together every Saturday and Dani sleeps in my bed on nights of thunderstorms.

But tonight Dani was spending the evening over my Grandma Nelly's house and Liv was trying to convince me to get out of the house.

"You'll have so much fun if you go out. As a parent this is the time to have fun." She urged.

I shook my head, "Just because I'm in my early twenties doesn't mean I have to party."

She then said, "You're a mother and you have a night without your child. You can focus on something other than work and family."

"Drunken Friday nights end up as one night stands. I'm staying home and if I want to buy alcohol to drink in my lonesome I will." I stated.

She booed me, "Boooo. You're no fun."

I went and gave her the stack of papers I'd been grading.

"Well if you're really not going to do anything tonight, can you help me put my new couch together?" She asked.

I hmm'd and she said, "That is if you think you can be a friend for an hour outside of work. But if your libido will explode because I'm sitting next to you, you don't have to do it."

I rolled my eyes, "Fine but I would like some food for my efforts. Doesn't have to be somewhere we sit down. I don't want you regretting anymore decisions."

We made eye contact. She agreed with a nod. I just went back to my desk.

Liv made me carry the pizza inside.

I was on the phone with Dani as we walked in, "You need to go to the mall Saturday Dani?"

She then said, "Yes. Grandma and I both agreed that I need new toys and books."

Of course they agreed on that.

I then said, "Alright, well I'll take you tomorrow afternoon when you come back. And Liv can be there to help you pick out the toys."

She then said, "Ok. Tell her to braid her hair because I'm going to have Grandma Nelly braid mine."

I giggled softly and said, "Ok I'll tell her. I love you."

She took a deep breath, "I love you too! Bye!"

She hung up and I looked to Liv, "I have to take Talia to the mall to get more toys tomorrow. If you come she wants you to braid your hair."

"I'll be there and I'll braid my hair." She said.

I ate a slice of pizza and I heard, "Are you getting pizza grease on my new couch."

I then said, "Hey, no complaining. The sooner I get in and out the more likely you are to be fully clothed when I go."

She shook her head, "Cocky even with the glasses on too."

I chuckled softly as she read the directions

I actually put the couch together as she read them to me. She had a screw driver, a hammer, and a wrench as her household tools. Luckily I only needed the screw driver and not a more complex tool.

It took me about an hour to finish assembling the couch and when I was finished I sat down.

"Hey, you can go now." She said whilst nudging me.
