Professor Q. walked around the room collecting all final assignments before handing everyone their tests. "With a passing midterm, your studies are over. From here, you will move forward to meeting your teams and will be able to focus on team battles solely. However, there will be some volunteer opportunities as well. Now, for those who do not pass, you will have to learn to balance a class atop your team practices. You will have to pass your tests to graduate from Omega 5, but there is no limit to how many times you can take your test. Now before we begin, are there any last-minute questions?
Professor Q. offered clarity for a few scattered questions before beginning the test. When everyone felt ready, he passed out the tests. "When you've completed your test, bring it to me and return to your seat. I will call you back up once I finish grading it to inform you of your score. You may begin."
In theory, Jade was confident that she and her friends would all pass, but now, taking the test, her nerves were getting themselves worked up. Especially after the night, she had, but she focused. Taking a deep breath, Jade began. A few questions in, she started to feel more confident. She was thankful for the extra reading she did on her own, as several questions would've been missed had she not?
Amelia finished first. She handed her test in and waited at her desk. It didn't take long before she was called back up and was told of her passing. Amelia smiled at Jade and Joe before leaving the classroom. A few other students finished after Amelia and before Jade, but Jade was among the front to finish, Joe finishing soon after. They took their tests and orbs to Professor Q. before returning to their seats. Professor Q. called Jade and Joe up at the same time. They glanced at one another in concern before moving to the front.
"Congratulations, you two, you've passed," Professor Q. said with a significant smile. "It was an honor to teach you."
"Thank you, Professor," Jade said, bowing her head.
"Yes, thank you," Joe added. Jade and Joe turned to each other, their smiles wide as they grabbed their stuff and exited the classroom. "We're done," Joe exhaled, "what a relief." Amelia rushed over anxiously. "We passed!" They celebrated among themselves as they waited for the offensive class to finish. It wasn't long until the doors opened, and Alex and Edge exited simultaneously. Jade's stomach turned as Edge smiled at her, yet another patch on their relationship.
"How'd it go?" Jade asked, staring between the two of them to not show focus on either one.
"We both passed," Alex said. "What about you guys?"
"Same," Jade, Amelia, and Joe said in unison.
"Well, I guess this is it," Joe said, looking between them. "A week apart from one another. I'll miss you guys."
"Me too," Amelia said. Jade, Alex, and Edge nodded their agreement. Jade could feel Edge's eyes on her, but she didn't want to meet his gaze. "Well, I am going to head home. My family is very eager to hear about everything so far. I'll see you guys when we all get back," Amelia waved as she left.
"Same, my mother needs some help around the house, so better start there. Also, Pangy is a bit homesick," Joe said, hugging Alex and Jade. "You going to be okay?" Joe whispered. Jade smiled and nodded.
Jade, Edge, and Alex were all that remained. Alex glanced between them and turned back to her. "I may see you. I know my father wants me to come by, but just in case." Alex embraced her, whispering in her ear. "If you need me, just call." Jade smiled as Alex left, leaving just her and Edge. She proceeded towards her room, but Edge followed closely.
"I'm sorry, Jade, please say something."
Jade remained quiet until they got to her room. Letting him in, she shut the door behind him and started packing the last of her bags. "I'm getting tired of all these secrets. You accused me of being caught up on Alex. Then I forgive you, and now? Now I find out I don't know you at all. I mean, how could I not know your ability? How could you not tell me?"
"I didn't want you to think our relationship wasn't real. I didn't want you to think I manipulated it in my favor."
"I wouldn't have," Jade sighed. "Now, I'm not sure. I mean, you did manipulate me after all." Edge looked away, his eyes darting to the ground. "Back on Inanis, everything was so simple, and now?" Jade sighed.
"Wait, okay? Look, I'm sorry, but please don't be rash in making decisions."
"I'm going to head out," Jade said. "Maybe some time apart will clarify our relationship."
"I love you, Jade." Jade looked away, the words stinging her. His eyes were glossed, and the fear in his expression made her stomach turn. "Please, I don't want to lose you again."
"I'll see you when we come back." Jade grabbed her bag and started towards the door. Sighing, she forced a smile before leaving. This week was about her family. Amorio took the week off to visit her and Topaz at the castle while Craig stayed home to care for the shop and cafe. Right now, having a break from the theatrics of her relationship was all she wanted.
