Jade stepped foot at the entrance of Omega 5. Topaz embraced her and watched as she returned up the steps. She was gone for a week, and her entire life changed that week. Not only did she find her birth father, but she discovered that she was the princess of Findere. Stepping into the school, it felt like everything had changed, but none of the other students noticed it. Walking down the hallways, she carried her bag back into her room and lay on her bed, catching her breath. This moment was the first moment alone she had in a week. Her friends knew that she spent her week getting to know Topaz, but only Alex witnessed a glimpse of her power. Jade stepped out of her shoes and moved her furniture to the side, and practiced her movement. Various auras swirled around her as she pushed them forward. Her abilities, plural, would now become a statement. While not everyone would piece together her relation to the Enlightened, they would see her power. The promise she made to herself in the Medical Wing that night would come true. No longer would she leave herself powerless to attacks.
Jade went through the checklist that Amelia provided, practicing every type of movement she could. Her midterms were the day after next, and no longer would she be viewed as weak. Jade was determined to show everyone that they should be afraid of crossing her. Serf, Arc, whatever, Jade would not let any of them make her feel insignificant again.
Jade panted, noticing the hours that passed as she practiced her movement. She rested on the ground bringing herself into a meditation. In six months, her entire life had flipped upside down. The weak Serf with wide eyes whose love for Alex knew no bounds grew into a powerful multi-wielder. Oh, and she couldn't forget the multi-wielding Princess of Findere, daughter of the Enlightened. Any of those details would've made her childhood self laugh. Amorio always told her she was destined for greatness, but all a young Jade wished for was a life. A life as Alex's wife and watching as he lived the great life. But, him coming home to see her would be worth living in the shadows of his greatness. Now, she was ashamed that would've ever been a good enough path for her."
After Edge left the castle, Jade had some time to learn more about her abilities and Topaz. Shame filled her as thoughts of how low Edge made her feel that night. How often would she have to prove herself trustworthy? Jade was never dishonest with Edge, but she knew her honesty broke him. Maybe more so, her cowardice when she didn't show up that day. But, she refused to continue to apologize. He accepted it, and now he either needed to embrace that acceptance or let her go. Her life would be too important to settle for more resentment in the hands of men who claim to love her. Whenever she was around Edge, he reminded her of sweet love. One that touched the most profound parts and left her pondering dreams of a future alongside him. However, when they were apart, she often wondered if falling back into the arms of one of the only two men she ever loved was the healthiest choice. They had only hung out twice since discovering each other here at Omega 5, but with the added pressure of her fathers at the castle, they attached the labels of boyfriend and girlfriend. Jade now felt hesitant about it, but she knew his words wouldn't have cut so deeply that night if love didn't linger there. Jade also knew her routine defensive techniques, and pushing away happiness tended to be at the top.
Jade opened her eyes, standing up and crossing to the mirror. Rummaging through a nearby bag, she pulled out her circlet, placing it on her forehead. She smiled, enjoying the appearance of the girl in front of her. Jade's deepest dreams were always to help the people of Findere, especially the Serfs. Now, she could be in a position to do just that. She giggled to herself as she twirled around her skirt flowing, and the circlet branding her the Princess of Findere. No matter how many times she acknowledged it, she struggled to believe it. Deep felt fears of everything being taken from under her remained. Though for once, her optimism took over her fears. Jade set the circlet on her desk and took a deep breath. A large smile overcame her as her aura encased her, a bright light illuminating her room. Her heart pulsated as her power shone, and at this moment, she was the most content with herself than she ever had been.
A knock came at her door, and her aura calmed. Her moment of self-appreciation ended here. Sighing, she turned to the door and crossed over to answer it. Jade smiled on her face and opened it greeting Edge, who awaited on the other side. Flowers covered his face as he extended them to her. Jade took them and crossed to her kitchen to place them in water. Edge looked over her as a smile crossed his expression.
"I missed you," he proclaimed as he crossed to her. His arms wrapped around her waist as he pulled her into a kiss. Her heart lit at the sentiment. She smiled as he removed his lips and rested her forehead against his own. "You have a growing confidence about you today," he noted. "I guess it's hard not to when you come back from discovering something magnificent about yourself, huh?"
"Well, it's also hard not to feel confident when your boyfriend is this cute and greets you with such endearment." Edge succumbed to her words. For once, her face wasn't the one turning red at a compliment. He pulled her back in for another kiss, hiding his lack of composure. Just like that, one swift motion of her back in his arms, and she was already entranced. "I want to tell you all about the ceremony planning." Jade enthused. "First of all, it will no longer be on mid-break, and I asked to wait until after graduation." Edge nodded, taking in her words. "You're going to love the dress I chose."
"Well, if you're in it, I know you're right." Edge pulled her into another kiss. "How'd I get so lucky?" Her eyes shone at him. He led her to the couch, where she began to draw him a picture of the ceremony plans.
