Tests, medication, creams, beeping monitors, and machines evaluated her, and it all became too regular for her liking. When they finished evaluating her, Amorio was the first to come into the room. They waited impatiently for nearly an hour while ensuring her vitals looked okay. Amorio's expression confirmed her thoughts on her appearance. They refused to allow Jade to see the damage, not wanting her to fall into the darkness she had before.

He sat down, his eyes watered as he looked at her. "I'm so sorry, baby girl. I don't understand how anyone could do this to you. You're so kind-hearted and caring, and I don't get it."

He helped her sit up as she adjusted. Jade took a deep breath and turned to him. "I know you've experienced some discrimination. I know Craig has for sure, and you've watched us both go through the worst of it. I want you to know something, Amorio. I'm done with all the pity and feelings of weakness. The next time a bunch of pathetic Arks comes at me, I will be strong enough to attack back, and I will."

"Jade, I want you to feel strong and be able to do all you want, but I thought healing wasn't an offensive ability."

"It's not, but my friend Joe trained with grandfather, and until I can train with grandfather directly, I'm going to train with him. I'm tired of relying on other people. I'm tired of being made to feel like I don't deserve to wake up in the morning. Sometimes I struggle with why I'm fighting for this life, but now, I get it. They want to put me in my place, and I'm going to show them where my place is."

"Okay," Amorio nodded, holding her hand.

"I want to see what I look like, Dad" He nodded, looking around to ensure they weren't being watched. Amorio fumbled through the drawers finding a small mirror and handed it to her. Jade looked at her face, the burns on her neck. The most significant scar was the spelling 'fake' on her forearm. "I'm not going through another cycle of a broken arm. Alex owes me, and he can afford the healing orbs I need to repair it."

"I didn't think you wanted to see him."

"I'm going to have to see him tell him we're over, so, might as well get something out of it."

"Jade, you're allowed to feel your feelings."

"I know that dad, you taught me that, but I'm so tired of being a victim. I'm done living in fear. Those cowards attacked me behind masks, but I will not hide behind mine. They don't want to call me an Ark. Then I won't be. I'll be the Serf who will no longer put up with their crap."

"I'll always support you, Jade." Jade smiled. "I want you to know that if the anger simmers down and you feel saddened or hurt later, that doesn't make you weak."

"I know. Can you send Joe to get Alex for me? I think it's time we talked." They both turned at a knock at the door. Jade lit up at the sight of Edge waving. "Um, on second thought, maybe wait a while to do that."

"Wait, Edge is here?"

"Yeah. I haven't had a chance to talk with him yet." Jade smiled. "Um, Dad, could you?"

"Yes, yes," Amorio stood up and crossed out of the room, letting Edge in. He crossed over to the chair Amorio was in, carrying a basket and placing it in front of her.

"Cimbees? How did you find these?" Jade asked, her eyes wide at the oval flower, whose petals made it seem like two of them were pressed together."

"I've spent a lot of time reading your notes and been working on my medicinal garden." Jade smiled. "So, if I'm correct, these will help eliminate burn scars, right?"

"I've never done formal research, but."

"Well then, here." He pulled a small clear bag out of his bag filled with a cream he had formed out of the flowers. "May I?" he said, gesturing to her face. She nodded. He got some of it out of the bag with a careful finger and ran it softly over the burn mark across her eye.

A cooling sensation came over the burn, and it seemed like the cream seeped into the scar. Edge smiled, grabbing the mirror beside her and holding it up. Her eyes widened. "Wow, it's already working?" Edge nodded with excitement. They crushed the other flowers, adding the mixture Edge made and applying it over her scars. "Edge?" she whispered, "Not that I'm not happy to see you, but what are you doing here?"

"I'm not exactly sure of the entire story. Like I told you, I thought I was a Void, but it turns out that I was born with an ability. I was attacked, poisoned, or something, and because of it. It took my ability with it. However, I guess my mother noticed something that indicated that it might not be completely gone. So I told you I was going to Omega 1. But, the truth was they took me to a Preliminary Omega, where they discovered that my ability was only weakened, not gone. They said that something must've strengthened me over the years to make it discoverable again. After all that, well, here I am."

"Edge," Jade said before taking a deep breath. "I'm so sorry for not saying goodbye. For leaving us the way I did."

"It's okay, Jade." She started to open her mouth to disagree, but he held up his hand. "If you hadn't done that, I wouldn't have left you to explore my power. Who knows if I would've become strong enough to go to Omega 5. If I hadn't left when I did, then you would never know if Alex was the one you wanted or not."

"This made me realize for certain that he isn't." She sighed, "I feel guilty for the pain I caused you."

"Honestly, it's okay. Besides, it should be impossible that you're here with me. So, maybe faith is bringing us together again, hm?"

Jade smiled as his brown eyes studied her, and she could feel herself falling into the trance he always brought her in. Edge didn't force her into unattainable standards or bark commands. He just loved her. It wasn't a loud love, it wouldn't be a huge thing among the public, but it was pure and straightforward. The way he made her heart jerk without even turning towards her in the hallway that day, he took her interests and made them his own. How he brought her herbal medicine that he created. It was all so pure and true. They both jumped out of the trance when a knock at the door. Jade frowned, seeing Alex standing there.

"I'll leave you two be, okay?"

"Okay," Jade said with a sigh. "Edge, wait." He turned around to look at her. "When I'm better, do you want to hang out? I do miss you."

"I'd like that." Edge nodded at Alex and held the door open, leaving them alone.
