Chapter Fifty-Seven - Electric Blue Rose vs. Armoured Flame

Amelia woke up to the sound of the alarm, showering and changing into her team's uniform. She meditated for an hour before heading down to the Battle Grounds. Today would be their most difficult challenge yet, and it was against her best friend. Her best friend also fought alongside two other potent offensive wielders. Regardless, Amelia wouldn't go down without a fight, and this one they've been practicing for the most. They won just as many games as Electric Blue Rose and shouldn't be counted out because they don't have Jade on their team, but at the same time, Amelia's team knew underestimating them would result in a quick defeat.

"Morning, team," Amelia said, crossing into their team room. "Did you both meditate this morning?"

"Joe and I came early to do some meditating here." Joe was quiet and didn't meet her gaze, and Amelia looked puzzled but didn't have time to pry.

"Good, so let's review." She flipped over the whiteboard to expose their plan, reminding them not to take Jade's multi-abilities lightly.

"You'll still cast a shield on me, right?" Joe asked. Amelia nodded, "there is a good chance I can get Jade to engage in a one-to-one with me."

"Okay, well, remember to adapt as needed. However, the plan is to stick to our training practices. We have been training too hard to give up, and it's time to give it our all."

Their talking ceased as the announcements started to sound. "Ladies and Gentlemen, as both teams make their way out, we'd like to formally introduce you to the first of many rounds in our Semi-Finals. Group A battled last night, Barrier Breakers versus Vortex Flame. Resulting in Barrier Breakers as the winner of yesterday's battle. So, now, let's meet today's teams. On our right, we have Armored Flame. Amelia, Joe, and James came on the field. Cheers echoed in the room. "Amelia - Team Leader and Kinetics Wielder, Joe - Animal Adaptation and Combat, and James - Pyrokinesis. Coming in on the left side is Electric Blue Rose. Team Leader - Ray Rayes - Electrokinesis, Alexandrite Caldwell - Hydrokinesis, and Jade Flora." The mention of her name caused an eruption of cheers. Amelia's stomach turned, she saw Jade smile and wave to the crowds, but she knew Jade well enough to know she didn't want to stand out in these competitions. She just wanted to compete. "Jade Flora - Absorption," the announcer finished. "Teams, please get in your starting positions, and begin!"

Joe grabbed his staff, extending it to Amelia. She grabbed it and brought her kinetics out, covering the staff. She spun it, bringing a large barrier wall to them as she armored herself and James with her barriers. Joe and Pangy connected to bring forth his armored scales and claws. Joe took the staff and positioned himself. Claws and all, he knew his way around the staff. Amelia cast a barrier around Jade. At that moment, James leaped up and shot his fire down towards Ray, it came down on him like a shower, but Alex was quick to counter, covering the battlefield in steam. Jade cracked the barrier and used her wind to send the steam back at them, but Joe spun the staff quick enough to send it away until it disappeared, clearing a view for both teams.

Ray's stomped his foot on the ground, and when the electricity crackled from his hand, Amelia shot the floor, creating a kinetics barrier underneath them. The smooth surface was something they had to practice fighting on, but it did block Ray's electric floor. Joe crossed to Jade, he started coming at her with the staff, but just as quickly, she formed her own made out of her kinetic ability and began to fight back. Amelia wanted nothing more than to watch them fight one another one to one as they were, but there were still two others to take battle.

Amelia turned to James, who nodded. Amelia created a kinetic ball that James filled with flames that she flung at Alex and Ray. The ball cracked as it impacted Alex and Ray, searing them with burns as it exploded. Alex shot his hands up, creating a giant wall of water. He placed his hands in the wall and turned the water into a chaotic wave, which Alex sent crashing down on Amelia and James. Ray's electricity crackled from his hands. Instead of aiming at the floor, he sent it towards the water, breaking Amelia and James' barriers and sending them flying backward as the water forced impact. Joe remained engaged with Jade, dodging all the attacks from Alex and Ray.

James sent fire toward Joe. His staff now circled with fire. Jade flinched as it made contact with her skin, but she didn't let up, and her movements did not falter. Amelia and James stood back on their feet. Amelia noticed Jade went from two-handed fighting to one-handed while her other hand drew up enough energy. She cast a large tornado towards Amelia and James, Alex and Ray, both adding their abilities to it. Amelia went to cast a barrier, but her speed reduced after the last hit her aura took. Both James and her used the last of their auras to send kinetic spikes tipped with fire to rain down on Alex and Ray, hitting them straight on, just as their tornado hit Amelia and James straight on. The four of them were considered out due to diminished auras, and they would not be allowed to continue due to the risk of life it posed to extend past an aura.

All that remained was Jade and Joe. Amelia knew Jade could use her abilities, but Jade would refuse. She was just as proud as Amelia was. She was engaged in this type of battle with Joe. It would be the way it would end. Amelia expected people to scream for Jade to use her abilities to finish Joe, but it was the opposite. The audience was captivated by their fight, and it was hard not to be. Their movements looked rehearsed, but their expressions showed they were giving it all they got. Joe knocked Jade to the ground, and the entire audience gasped. Amelia's eyes widened, but as Joe went to do the final blow of stabbing his staff down, she rolled over. Joe's staff shoved it into the ground, sticking as Joe tried to pull it back out. Jade leaped up and knocked Joe to the ground and followed through with the move he had just tried to complete.

Joe's connection with Pangy disappeared, saving him from serious injury and leaving Jade as the last one standing. She caught her breath and raised the staff in the air. Despite her own aura being nearly diminished, she remained standing.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, in the closest match of the season, the win goes to Electric Blue Rose."

Jade got rid of the staff and raised his hand, resulting in cheers. Joe and Jade crossed to the others together.

"Congratulations, guys," Amelia said, still breathy.

"You were all fantastic," Ray beamed, "what a match." Amelia was thankful that she was not the only one out of breath.

"Congratulations, Jade," James said, approaching her. Jade nodded. Despite her forgiveness, becoming friends or friendly with him seemed to be a stretch. Alex came over and shook their hands.

Jade crossed to Amelia. "Wow, you guys. I've been both dreading this battle and looking forward to it, but this was by far the most exciting one.

"Well, I guess this is it for Armoured Flame. Now you guys will face three more teams before heading into the finals. Are you ready?" Amelia asked.

"We will be," Jade nodded. Amelia was thankful Jade started to revert to her new normal. Amelia turned, seeing Ray approach her.

"You were great. I mean, great, wow. I-I'm so impressed." Amelia smiled at Ray's loss."Do you? Would you? I mean. Do you want to go on a date?"

"Yeah, I'd like that very much," Amelia said. "Meet me in my room in an hour?" Ray nodded as he kissed Amelia's cheek, leaving her flushed. He gazed down at her for another moment before sighing and walking off. She never had someone stare at her that way, especially since being Jade's best friend. Everyone's eyes were always drawn to Jade, but Amelia usually didn't mind. Usually, Amelia's attention went to a book. However, it was an exciting change of pace to have Ray's attention. It was hard not to want it to continue. Amelia grabbed her bag and went towards her room to get ready for her celebration date with Ray.
